As of Aug 15, 2026, the average hourly pay for comedy in Texas is $15.15, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $14.33 and $16.78 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some common challenges comedians face when starting out in the industry?

Aspiring comedians often encounter challenges such as building a unique comedic voice, handling stage fright, and navigating the unpredictability of open mic nights or small venues. Networking with other comedians and industry professionals is essential, as is learning how to adapt material based on audience reactions. Persistence and resilience are key, since early setbacks and tough crowds are common, but these experiences help comedians refine their craft and gain confidence over time.

What are different types of comedy jobs?

Comedy jobs fall into two major categories. The highlight of this field is the comedian, who acts as the face of the industry to tell jokes, perform skits at a club, and do stand-up routines for an audience. However, you can also find roles in this industry like personal assistants or editors who check to be sure that proposed jokes are acceptable to the audience and don't cross the line from entertainment to a legal issue. Many comedy jobs involve a significant amount of writing, particularly because you do most of the work behind the scenes, away from the view of the intended audience. Some comedy jobs are particularly fast-paced and may require producing material on short deadlines.

What is a comedian?

A comedian is an entertainer who uses humor to make people laugh, often through stand-up performances, sketches, or comedic writing. Comedians may perform in various settings, including comedy clubs, theaters, television, movies, and online platforms. They create jokes, funny stories, or parodies based on everyday life, current events, or personal experiences. Their goal is to entertain audiences and provide a unique perspective through humor.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a comedian, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Comedian, you need strong comedic writing, timing, storytelling abilities, and typically some stage experience or performance training. Familiarity with audio/visual equipment, social media platforms, and sometimes video editing software is useful for content creation and promotion. Creativity, resilience, adaptability, and the ability to read and engage audiences are standout soft skills in this field. These skills and qualities are essential for delivering engaging performances, building a following, and sustaining a successful career in the competitive world of comedy.

What is the difference between Comedy vs Stand-up Comedy?

Comedy is a broad entertainment genre that includes various formats like sitcoms, sketches, and stand-up routines. Stand-up comedy is a specific form within comedy, focusing on solo performances aimed at eliciting laughter directly from an audience. While all stand-up comedians are part of the comedy industry, not all comedy involves stand-up routines. Understanding this distinction helps in choosing the right career path or search focus within the entertainment industry.

With fine dining as a cornerstone of the membership offerings, our culinary philosophy is best described as a place "Where Global Flavors Meet Dallas Elegance." Bringing more than 40 years of culinary expertise, including tenure at some of the most prestigious steakhouses in Texas, Executive Chef Connie Trujillo seamlessly blends global inspiration with classic Dallas steakhouse flare to create an unforgettable dining experience.

Beyond the culinary experience, Champions Social Club comes alive with curated entertainment for our members — from music to comedy to magic shows — and special events such as wine tastings, cigar and bourbon pairings, networking events and more. At Champions, culture is everything. We believe in limitless possibilities and building a team that values people above all. We're driven by creativity, integrity and a shared passion for delivering exceptional experiences in every detail.

About The Role

Champions Club is looking for an energetic and dependable Barback to join our Food & Beverage team. The Barback plays an essential role in creating a seamless and elevated bar experience by ensuring our Bartenders and Servers have everything they need to deliver exceptional service to our members and guests.

Our Barbacks are responsible for keeping the bar fully stocked, clean, organized, and prepared throughout service. From replenishing liquor, beer, wine, ice, glassware, and garnishes to assisting with bar setup and breakdown, this role works closely with the Bartending and various Front of House teams to anticipate needs and keep service moving efficiently. The ideal candidate is proactive, organized, hospitality-driven, and comfortable working with a sense of urgency in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

**This is a part-time position, working approximately 15 – 25 hours per week.**

Responsibilities
  • Support Champions Club's culture by creating a positive, welcoming, and professional experience for members and guests.
  • Assist Bartenders with the daily setup, organization, maintenance, and breakdown of all bar areas.
  • Maintain adequate levels of liquor, beer, wine, mixers, garnishes, ice, glassware, and other bar supplies throughout service.
  • Anticipate Bartender needs and replenish supplies proactively to ensure efficient and uninterrupted service.
  • Prepare garnishes, juices, mixers, and other bar ingredients according to established standards.
  • Refill ice wells, replace empty bottles, change beer kegs, and restock coolers and service stations as needed.
  • Collect, wash, polish, and properly store glassware and bar utensils.
  • Maintain clean and organized bar tops, wells, coolers, storage areas, equipment, and surrounding service areas.
  • Assist with receiving, organizing, rotating, and properly storing beverage inventory and supplies.
  • Follow proper opening, closing, sanitation, and cleaning procedures for the bar.
  • Communicate effectively with Bartenders, Servers, Supervisors, and other Front of House Team Members to support smooth service.
  • Respond to member and guest needs with professionalism and promptly communicate requests or concerns to the appropriate Team Member.
  • Maintain awareness of bar operations and prioritize tasks appropriately during high-volume periods.
  • Follow all health, sanitation, food safety, alcohol-service, and company policies and procedures.
  • Handle glassware, beverages, equipment, and supplies safely and responsibly.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude while remaining present and engaged with the team.
  • Assist other Front of House areas when needed to support the overall member experience.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Experience & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.
  • TABC and Food Handler certifications are required or must be obtained prior to your first day of employment.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Flexible availability, including evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays is required.
  • Previous barback, restaurant, hospitality, or high-volume service experience preferred.
  • Experience working in an upscale restaurant, private club, hotel, entertainment venue, or high-volume bar environment is a plus.
  • Strong sense of urgency with the ability to anticipate needs and remain organized during busy service periods.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with Bartenders and other Front of House Team Members.
  • Strong attention to cleanliness, organization, and detail.
  • Dependable with excellent attendance and time-management skills.
  • Ability to remain professional and productive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and safely lift, carry, push, or move beverage cases, kegs, ice, and other bar supplies.
What We Offer
  • Competitive compensation along with PTO & Paid Sick Leave available to employees after meeting initial eligibility requirements.
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including a flexible medical plan with customizable options for eligible positions, 401k with company matching and employee assistance/wellness programs.
