Communications Internship

Department: Communications

Status: Unpaid Internship

Duration: 6 months, up to 20 hours per week

Reports to: Communications Coordinator


Summary

Join the Communications team in supporting the storytelling and public presence of The Philadelphia Orchestra and Ensemble Arts Philly. During your internship, you will contribute to year-long social media and public relations campaigns while gaining hands-on experience at a major nonprofit performing arts institution.

This is an unpaid internship.


During your internship, you will:

  • Assist with the management, development, and scheduling of social media content.
  • Conduct social listening and performance analysis across all social media platforms.
  • Support daily media monitoring by compiling and distributing coverage reports.
  • Assist in drafting news releases, media alerts, blog posts, pitches, and other written content.
  • Research and contribute to special projects highlighting programming and educational initiatives.
  • Support on-site coverage of Orchestra programs, including escorting media and documenting events for social media.
  • Contribute to long-term departmental projects, such as organizing media lists and developing historical calendars.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities, which may include one-on-one informational sessions with senior leaders, attending internal meetings, and contributing to content strategy sessions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with major social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.).
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to multitask.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.
