Job Summary

This role is located in Mishawaka, IN. The desired candidate must live within 30 miles. Handson network maintenance, oncall rotation, benefits starting Day 1, and a company known for investing in its people and promoting from within.
Responsible for performing routine plant maintenance, troubleshooting calls, surveys, locates, outage repair, track and repair Cumulative Leakage Index (CLI), power supply maintenance and construction maintenance in accordance with Company procedures and practices. Will be called upon to troubleshoot and resolve service failures related but not limited to Company services such as Video (analog and digital,) Comcast Digital Voice (CDV,) and Comcast High Speed Data (CHSI) inclusive of Home Networking and Home Plug.

Job Description

Core Responsibilities

  • Possess ability to troubleshoot on analog and digital optics to support connectivity to the node, remote OLT/vBNG, or OLT, and channelized and non-channelized optical signals. Troubleshooting efforts may include the use of software and application-based tools.
  • Able to isolate and resolve fiber optic signal impairments for Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) and Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) networks. Performs inspections of fiber optic equipment during the course of troubleshooting such as connectors, patch panels, optical splitters, attenuators, etc.
  • Performs construction maintenance duties such as: splices aerial/underground coaxial cable and equipment to restore cable plant to system specification; splices and activates new coaxial plant as required; repairs and/or replace damaged aerial/underground plant; and inspects, repairs and/or replaces power supplies as necessary.
  • Responds to damage scenarios and initiates fixes and/or communicates and arranges appropriate fix agents through collaboration with other departments such as Construction, Head End, Operations, and others to resolve complex network issues.
  • Performs CLI ride-out and track and repair leakage, as necessary.
  • Possesses knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC,) the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC,) the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA,) Federal Communications Commission (FCC,) Environmental Protection Agency (EPA,) Department of Transportation (DOT,) American National Standards Institute (ANSI,) and various state and local codes including G.O. 95 and G.O. 128, (when applicable).
  • Checks in each job in a timely manner in order to ensure all details of the work are recorded for entry in the customer's account once the work is complete. Completes associated paperwork with each work order, as required.
  • Responds to and repairs service interruptions during regular business hours, shift work or when "On-calls" as required. Normal work shift may include evenings and/or weekends; may include 10 hour days for 4 days a week. Must be available to work overtime including weekends, evenings and holidays.
  • Essential Functions of Role: During the course of normal day-to-day activities: cleans, maintains and stocks vehicle and equipment in order to be prepared for daily responsibilities; completes associated paperwork with each job in a timely manner; properly operate and maintain vehicle, tools, and equipment; reports need for vehicle repair or service when required and/or prescribed; and reports any accidents, losses, injuries or property damage to supervisor and customer when appropriate.
  • Drives company vehicle in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Works and travels in inclement weather.
  • Must have the ability to comply with safety procedures and requirements.
  • Must be able to work while standing 50-70% of the time.
  • Must have the ability to climb ladders and operate aerial lifts up to 34' feet above ground, as determined by the system's requirements. In some instance may be required to climb poles.
  • Must possess the ability to use basic cable test equipment. Performs work near power lines and electricity.
  • Must have the ability to use basic cable installation tools and hand tools, which will include the use of a hand shovel.
  • Lifts and carries loads of 70 lbs. or more.
  • Manipulates connectors, fasteners, wire; use hand tools. Must have vision ability of: close vision, peripheral vision, ability to adjust focus and differentiate colors.
  • Works within manufacturer's rated weight capacity for all equipment, including but not limited to ladders and aerial lifts.
  • Must possess the ability to manipulate objects such as pens, keyboard and mouse.
  • Minimum of twelve months cable telecommunications, broadband, or similar experience.
  • Must posses a valid drivers license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Drives company vehicle in a safe and responsible manner and demonstrates professional conduct and appearance.Applies knowledge and skills of training on the job in order to prepare for promotion to the next level.
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.
  • Completes required training in accordance with Company standards.
  • Considered essential personnel during larger customer impacting events such as major storms or large scale events that impact.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • CT3 Advanced and Above Technicians Preferred.
