Job description

Combustion Thermal Engineer About the Opportunity

Join one of the world's leading aerospace manufacturers as a Combustion Thermal Engineer! We are seeking an exceptional engineering professional to lead critical thermal processing operations that directly impact the safety, reliability, and performance of aerospace components used in commercial and defense aviation. This role offers the unique opportunity to work with cutting-edge combustion systems, advanced heat treatment technologies, and state-of-theโ€‘art thermal processing equipment in a dynamic aerospace manufacturing environment.

Position Overview

As a Combustion Thermal Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, optimization, operation, and maintenance of industrial combustion systems and heat treatment furnaces used in aerospace component manufacturing. You will ensure all thermal processing operations comply with stringent aerospace industry standards including AMS2750 (Pyrometry specifications) and NFPA86 (Standard for Ovens and Furnaces), while maintaining the highest levels of safety, quality, and efficiency. This position requires deep technical expertise in combustion science, thermal dynamics, and heat treatment metallurgy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop combustion chambers, thermal management systems, heat exchangers, fuel/air delivery systems, and related aerospace hardware.
  • Perform thermodynamic, fluid-flow, heat-transfer, and combustion analyses to evaluate system and component performance.
  • Develop analytical models and conduct computational simulations to predict thermal and fluid behavior.
  • Perform CFD and other numerical analyses as appropriate to support design decisions.
  • Define and execute component and system-level testing, including development of test plans, instrumentation, procedures, and data-reduction methods.
  • Analyze test data and correlate experimental results with analytical and computational models.
  • Support design reviews, trade studies, rootโ€‘cause investigations, and technical risk assessments.
  • Develop engineering requirements, specifications, test procedures, reports, and other technical documentation.
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical design, manufacturing, materials, controls, test, quality, and program teams.
  • Provide engineering support during prototype fabrication, assembly, testing, qualification, and production.
  • Identify opportunities to improve system performance, reliability, manufacturability, cost, and thermal efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and test issues and develop corrective actions.
  • Support configuration management, drawing reviews, and engineering change processes.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable aerospace standards, customer requirements, and company engineering processes.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of analysis methods, test capabilities, and engineering processes.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of relevant engineering experiencein combustion, thermal systems, propulsion, energy systems, or a related field.
  • Experience with engineering analysis and technical problem-solving.
  • Experience developing, conducting, or supporting engineering tests.
  • Proficiency with engineering software and data-analysis tools.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering and manufacturing environment.
