Job description

Role Overview

The Senior Engine Development Engineer will play a critical role in advancing engine performance, durability, emissions compliance, and system integration through data-driven development, testing, calibration, and validation activities. This position requires deep expertise in internal combustion engine development, engine controls, calibration tools, and performance optimization across a range of gaseous and conventional fuel applications.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, validation, and launch of new engine and power generation products.
  • Define and refine engine system requirements, specifications, and performance targets.
  • Develop, test, and integrate complex engine components and subsystems.
  • Analyze engine performance data and implement improvements related to combustion efficiency, emissions, durability, and fuel economy.
  • Design, execute, and evaluate engine validation, testing, and product qualification plans.
  • Develop product specifications, engineering documentation, component requirements, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Utilize calibration and data acquisition tools to optimize engine control strategies and system performance.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, design, validation, and product engineering teams to improve product manufacturability and reliability.
  • Support program execution by meeting development schedules, quality targets, and cost objectives.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on engine development programs.
  • Travel to support testing, validation, and engineering activities as required.


Required Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.


Experience

  • 7+ years of automotive powertrain, engine development, or related engineering experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on engine and engine component development experience.
  • 5+ years of experience with engine calibration and control software such as ATI Vision, CANape, INCA, or similar tools.
  • 3+ years of experience applying ATI Vision to engine control system development.


Required Technical Skills:

  • Strong experience in internal combustion engine design, development, and validation.
  • Expertise in engine performance calibration, combustion optimization, spark timing control, AFR tuning, emissions compliance, and durability development.
  • Experience developing and evaluating complex engine components while considering cost, reliability, performance, and safety.
  • Strong understanding of engine testing methodologies, validation processes, and product development lifecycles.
  • Proficiency in data acquisition, diagnostics, and performance analysis tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Ability to interpret complex technical data and communicate findings effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.


Preferred Qualifications:

Education:

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.


Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with GT-SUITE engine and system simulation.
  • Experience with CONVERGE CFD and in-cylinder combustion modeling.
  • Experience applying MATLAB/Simulink and Python for engineering analysis, modeling, and simulation.
  • Previous experience with embedded control software development and calibration.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP.


Preferred Technical Competencies:

  • Advanced knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and internal combustion engine operating cycles.
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink, Python, LabVIEW, ATI Vision, Concerto, or similar engineering tools.
  • Strong engine performance development and specification expertise.
  • Experience creating control strategies, diagnostics, and advanced data analysis solutions.
  • Systems engineering-based problem-solving approach.
  • Strong presentation, communication, and technical documentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within diverse global engineering teams.
