Job Description
The Research Engineer - CFD plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of our simulation capabilities. They develop and implement innovative techniques across various product platforms, driving strategic advantages and propelling our engineering prowess forward. They are experts in their field, mentors and guides engineers, and foster a collaborative environment where innovation thrives. They work on complex projects (flow and heat transfer/combustion/optimization/fluid structure interaction/vibroacoustic) with the design engineers towards improvement of product design. They also collaborate closely with cross-functional departments like R&D, Product Development, and Manufacturing to seamlessly integrate simulation into the product lifecycle.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in combustion simulations, emission reduction and thermal efficiency enhancement along with a keen eye for detail.
This position will be in Water Heating Division, located in Roswell, GA.
Responsibilities
  • Perform CFD simulations to analyze combustion and other flow related processes in water heating and air handling systems.
  • Develop and implement models for combustion, chemical kinetics, heat transfer, and turbulence.
  • Use commercial or open-source CFD software (e.g., StarCCM+, ANSYS Fluent, CONVERGE, OpenFOAM) to solve complex fluid flow problems.
  • Develop simulation techniques in CFD, FEA, acoustics, casting, optimization etc. for research and NPI support for various Water heating and Air product platforms
  • Work with the design team to understand the scope of work and evaluate the proper simulation tool / principles needed for the task.
  • Collaborate with product development teams to coordinate experiments and implement findings.
  • Investigate applicability of new technologies for product valuation benefits to the company and/or customer through first principles approach, 1D or 3D simulation techniques
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and methodologies in engineering simulations, ensuring the team remains at the forefront of industry advancements.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical / Aerospace / Chemical Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years working on various industrial simulations, R&D development, product development.
  • Proven experience in the evaluation, analysis, optimization, qualification, and implementation of thermal solutions in consumer or industrial products
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, combustion physics, and chemical kinetics.
  • Proficiency in CFD tools such as Ansys Fluent, Star-CCM+, Converge CFD, OpenFOAM, or similar software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of delivering innovative engineering solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrate ability to serve as a technical expert and advisor, influencing engineering decisions and providing guidance on complex simulation challenges.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage simulation activities across projects or functional areas, including planning, execution, and delivery of results.

HOW TO STAND OUT
  • Master's / PhD degree in Engineering, Applied Physics, or Applied Mathematics
  • 3+ years of experience in the analysis, modeling, optimization, and practical application of combustion CFD simulations to industrial systems
  • Advanced knowledge of Star CCM+ or OpenFOAM
  • Knowledge of usage of AI / ML applications for engineering simulation.
  • Knowledge of Linux administration / usage.
  • Demonstrate prior experience with open source CFD solver development
