Job description

Nurse Practitioner - Cardiology - Staten Island- Brooklyn Medical Group

Nurse Practitioners: Setting Standards, Changing Lives

NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Groups (NYPMG) are part of the physician enterprise of NewYork-Presbyterian, one of the nation's most comprehensive academic health care delivery systems affiliated with two world-renowned medical schools. Through primary care and multispecialty medical practices, the physicians and other health care professionals of NYPMG, in collaboration with Columbia Doctors and Weill Cornell Physicians, provide families with high quality, patient-centered care close to home in the New York metropolitan area. This position is approximately 50% clinical patient care and 50% nuclear stress lab responsibilities.

Location: Brooklyn, New York

Shift: Day Flex (United States of America)

Clinical Patient Care:

  • Provide comprehensive outpatient cardiology care in collaboration with a board-certified cardiologists.
  • Perform history and physical exams, manage chronic cardiovascular conditions (e.g., hypertension, heart failure, coronary artery disease, atrial fibrillation), order and interpret diagnostic tests, and develop treatment plans.
  • Adjust medications, provide patient education, and coordinate follow-up care.
  • Document thoroughly in the electronic medical record.

Nuclear Stress Lab Duties:

  • Prepare patients for nuclear stress testing (exercise and pharmacologic).
  • Explain procedures clearly and compassionately to patients, addressing questions and concerns.
  • Administer and monitor pharmacologic stress agents (e.g., regadenoson, Adenosine).
  • Supervise and assist with patient monitoring during stress testing, including IV placement, vital signs, and ECG monitoring.
  • Work closely with the attending cardiologist, nuclear medicine technologists, and nursing staff to ensure safe and efficient test completion.
  • Assist with preliminary reporting and quality assurance as needed.

This is a full time position located in Staten Island, NY. The schedule is Monday through Friday 9:00AM-5:00PM (must be flexible) One Saturday a month required.

Preferred Criteria:

  • Prior experience working in an outpatient cardiology practice or stress lab.
  • Comfort with IV starts and cardiac rhythm interpretation.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to educate patients effectively.

Required Criteria:

  • Master's Degree in Nursing required
  • Current New York State Registered Nurse license
  • Current New York State Nurse Practitioner license
  • Board Certification with the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as an Adult, Acute Care or Family Nurse Practitioner
  • New York State Prescriptive Authority
  • Current Registration with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
