Position Summary
Kodak Alaris is looking for a self-motivated image scientist to support the Kodak Moments worldwide photo printing business. This position is part of the R&D and manufacturing teams that develop and commercialize new products and implement changes to existing products. It interacts with all parts of the business including printer hardware, software, media and worldwide marketing teams. This position serves as a worldwide resource on output image quality across thermal, inkjet, and electrophotographic (EP) technologies and a broad range of photo gifting products.
Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluation, prototyping, and integration of imaging devices from digital capture to hardcopy or digital output.
  • Develop ICC profiles and printer settings required to achieve desired output appearance and color management objectives for printer and media products.
  • Develop a sufficient understanding of Kodak Moments imaging algorithms and workflows to develop optimum profiles.
  • Work collaboratively with software & QA engineers, other image scientists, and product owners on product delivery.
  • Investigate, compare, and contrast imaging solutions and provide recommendations to the business team.
  • Assist in the definition, development, or purchase of imaging technology to meet product goals.
  • Work with R&D teams to develop project objectives, test protocols and verification requirements for new products and improvements to existing products.
  • Participate in the troubleshooting and root cause analysis for image quality related customer complaints and development of corrective actions.
  • Understand regional preferences to develop optimum output results across all worldwide accounts.
  • Machine learning models and other image processing algorithms
  • Evaluate image and video capture technologies for performance and suitability.

Required Skills
  • Knowledge of color reproduction theory and human visual perception.
  • Ability to interpret color measurement data, metrics, and encoding (CIE Lab, RGB, CMYK etc.)
  • Solid understanding of colorimetry, CIE color spaces, spectral data, and ICC profiling.
  • Possess critical image viewing & analysis skills to differentiate, critique, and optimize color position.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to translate technical results into product planning and delivery.
  • Results oriented and driven by data to inform decisions and optimize outcomes.
  • Strong data analysis skills with ability to present complex data in a concise effective manner.
  • Quick learner and highly self-motivated

Desired Skills
  • Broad understanding of the imaging chain, including photography, image capture, digital cameras, digital imaging technologies, and video imaging
  • Proficiency in developing ICC profiles for output media
  • Understanding of image file format (including Metadata).
  • Product development, and/or manufacturing experience
  • Project management or product commercialization experience
  • Programming skills, especially with respect to solving scientific and engineering problems.
  • Competency with statistical analysis methods and software (JMP, Minitab, MatLab, etc.)

Education and Experience
  • BS or MS in Imaging Science
  • 3 -5 years' experience in color science, imaging, or photographic materials (industry or research) desired.

Compensation: $75,000 - $95,000 annually, based on level of experience.
