Hours:                                                            8.5 hours to include hour lunch

Salary:                                                            $38,500.00 plus benefits

SCHOOL SECURITY OFFICER MAIN ENTRANCE

 

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Provides security for all staff assigned to a school building, students, buildings and property primarily through monitoring access to through the main entrance of Staples High School. Additional duties, as assigned by the central office or school administration may include patrolling of the school building and building perimeters, including parking lots, to prevent unauthorized visitors or property damage and to provide for general building security; is responsible for internal threat assessments and building awareness of students and staff as to matters of internal threat assessment; does related work as required. 

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE POSITION:

Under general supervision of the building principal and the school system director of facilities and security, school security officers are responsible for maintaining over-all security for all occupants and property of the assigned school, including its parking lots and external sites, in accordance with established security procedures. School security officers are unarmed and do not have the power to arrest individuals for security breaches.  School security officers are to be fully vetted by the Westport Police Department and the Office of the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources working in collaboration with state and national clearance agencies.  Prior law enforcement experience is preferred.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Participates, as requested by the administration, in developing and making recommendations regarding identifying and reporting internal threat assessments;

 Participates, as requested by the administration, in security inspections of school facilities;

Makes recommendations to correct security issues once identified;

Participates in providing security for all occupants of school buildings and grounds;

Provides assistance and security to community agencies using school facilities for after school activities;

Prevents unauthorized visitors from entering school buildings and/or loitering on school grounds;

Informs school administrators of student behavior problems;

Maintains liaison with police, fire and other municipal departments to insure maximum use of their services in order to provide adequate security and safety; and

Prepares reports and assists in special assignments as directed.
