Position Overview
Perform entry-level maintenance activities on all Pumping Facilities. Trainees assist technicians with basic tasks such as maintaining and repairing all gravity sewer lines and force mains, and keeping accurate records of work performed and measurements taken. Work is performed with close guidance and provides structured training to prepare the employee for progression to a Lift Station Collection Operator III.
This position plays a vital role in keeping the City's wastewater system operating safely and efficiently. Employees assist with maintaining lift stations and sewer infrastructure that protect public health and the environment while receiving hands-on training and experience to advance their career in utilities operations.
Position Functions
  • Assist with performing repairs and maintenance on wastewater collection systems and pump stations.
  • Assist with complex repair activities such as large main breaks, tie-ins, and emergency replacements.
  • Help troubleshoot wastewater collection system issues by performing field diagnostics such as checking pressures, evaluating flow, and collecting samples.
  • Follow and apply state and local regulations related to wastewater system maintenance.
  • Work collaboratively with other City departments, contractors, and utility personnel during field activities.
  • Assist during emergency response efforts related to wastewater collections system to include gravity main and force mains. May be required to assist other departments with utility repairs.
  • Participate in on-call rotations as required.
  • In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential and may be required to perform duties outside of their normal job description.
  • Complete required trainings as specified within the City Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan.
  • Drive to City work sites. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Valid Class E driver license. Must obtain state of Florida Class E driver license within thirty (30) days of employment

Licensing Requirements:
  • Must obtain Basic Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Certification within one year of employment
  • Must obtain a Wastewater Collection 3 Certification within 24 months of employment.
PREFERABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience in wastewater collection system maintenance and/or lift station operations.
  • Willingness to adopt AI and emerging technologies.
Career Development:
  • Upon obtaining a Wastewater Collection 3 Certification, and Basic MOT, the employee may be promoted to Lift Station Collection Operator III and may receive a 5% pay increase.

Supplemental Information
Applicants will be required to complete a Disclosure & Authorization Regarding Background Investigation, a Confidentiality Agreement and a criminal background screening.
Driving history for the past three (3) years must reflect no violations of a driving related felony offense, or driving under the influence (DUI) which includes both drugs and alcohol, reckless driving, or hit and run involving an occupied vehicle or attended property, or an accumulation of traffic violations, plus three (3) points for each attendance at driving school (regardless of whether points were assessed against the license) where the penalty points do not exceed twelve (12).
Position is considered at-risk for exposure to Hepatitis B during performance of regular duties. An acceptance/declination of vaccination form is required.
