What is the difference between Collagen Matrix vs Dental Assistant?
| Aspect | Collagen Matrix | Dental Assistant |
|---|---|---|
| Required Credentials | Certification in wound care or tissue engineering | Dental assisting certification or diploma |
| Work Environment | Medical or research labs, surgical settings | Dental clinics, dental offices |
| Industry Usage | Medical, tissue regeneration, biomaterials | Dental healthcare, patient support |
While Collagen Matrix specialists focus on tissue engineering and biomaterials, Dental Assistants support dental procedures and patient care. Both roles require certification but serve different industry needs. Understanding these differences helps in choosing the right career path or job search focus.

Job description
Post-Doctoral Research Fellow Position in
Vascular/Extracellular Matrix Biology
University of Maryland School of Medicine
Division of Cardiac Surgery
Thoracic Aortic Disease Research Lab
The Thoracic Aortic Disease Research Lab at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow to join our interdisciplinary team of basic scientists and clinicians with expertise in vascular biology, physiology, bioengineering, and thoracic aortic diseases to conduct NIH-supported research of human thoracic aortic disease. Our laboratory within the Division of Cardiac Surgery and in collaboration with the Center for Vascular and Inflammatory Diseases maintains a large human aortic tissue and vascular primary cell bank to aid our investigations of the cellular and molecular mechanisms that mediate thoracic aortic aneurysm. The prospective candidate should have a PhD in vascular biology, or similar field of study and a self-motivated interest in pursuing an independent research trajectory in cardiovascular biology. Prior post-doctoral research experience and a track record of independent funding acquisition is highly advantageous but not required. The candidate should also exhibit excellent English written and oral communication skills and will be expected to publish in peer-refereed journals, present results at national/international scientific conferences, apply for external funding opportunities, and participate in the preparation of grant applications by the team.
As a part of the postdoctoral experience, the applicant can expect to receive career mentoring from faculty of various backgrounds (clinical and fundamental science) in developing a research program, writing research proposals, and to participate in career development activities. Applicants should E-mail their CV, cover letter and provide three references attesting to the candidate's qualifications to the attention of:
Dr. Thomas Gleason
Professor of Surgery
This position is available immediately.
UMB is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, color, religion, national origin, disability, protected Veteran status, age, or any other characteristic protected by law or policy. We value diversity and how it enriches our academic and scientific community and strive toward cultivating an inclusive environment that supports all employees.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have experience/interest in vascular and microvascular biology, ECM biology, ECM biomaterials, 2-D and 3-D human cell culture, collagen and elastin biology, vascular tissue engineering, RNA and protein isolation from tissue and cultured cells, real-time PCR, Western blotting, molecular biology, histology, immunocytochemistry, and fluorescence microscopy (confocal/multiphoton). The candidate should be evidently self-driven, demonstrate independent research productivity, possess excellent interpersonal skills and high caliber professional conduct, and be able to interface with clinicians, research associates, students, and faculty.
