Job description

We are looking for an experienced Automation Quality Engineer to join our team in Cupertino. In this role you will perform software integration testing, black-box testing, and test automation across complex software and device environments - helping to ensure the products meet the highest standards of quality.
Location - Cupertino, CA. Candidates must be available to work onsite in a lab environment.
Shift hours: Monday-Friday 9am-6pm
In this role, you will:
• Perform software integration testing, black-box testing, and test automation across complex software and device environments.
• Analyze test failures, triage issues, review logs, and identify likely root causes.
• Design, develop, and automate new tests for functional, integration, and end-to-end validation.
• Flash, provision, configure, and set up multiple devices in a lab environment to support automated and manual testing.
• Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot multi-device lab environments used for automation execution and continuous validation.
• Escalate and report key quality issues and drive them through investigation and resolution.
• Enhance and maintain automated tests that validate application code and machine learning models.
• Maintain test automation frameworks, monitoring pipelines, test infrastructure, and device health.
• Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to reproduce defects, isolate failures, and improve test coverage.
• Provide clear status updates, test results, and defect reports through concise written and verbal communication.
What you need to have to be considered:
• 6+ years of professional work experience as a Software Development Engineer, Software Quality Engineer, Automation Quality Engineer, or related role.
• Expert programming skills in at least one of the following: Swift, Objective-C, Python, or Java, with working knowledge of Xcode.
• Strong experience with black-box testing, including end-to-end functional validation without reliance on implementation details.
• Hands-on experience flashing, provisioning, configuring, and managing devices in a lab environment.
• Experience setting up, maintaining, and troubleshooting multi-devices automation test labs.
• Strong triage and debugging skills, including log analysis, failure isolation, root cause analysis, and issue reproduction.
• Experience designing, developing, executing, and maintaining automated tests.
• Ability to independently drive tasks and projects, manage priorities, and communicate risks and status clearly.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
These will help you stand out:
• BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Previous experience working with virtual assistants, personal assistants, or AI-enabled products.
• Experience diagnosing hardware, software, networking, device and automation infrastructure issues in complex lab environments.
• Ability to write shell scripts and use Xcode to build or modify existing IOS application code.
• Test automation experience; XCTest experience
• Familiarity with OS platforms and related debugging or profiling tools.
• Basic Unix administration skills.
• Background in server-side automation
• Experience with Git and source code management solutions.
• Familiarity with logging, telemetry, metrics, and analytics concepts.
• Experience with machine learning systems and approaches for validating ML models.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Curious, proactive, and motivated to learn and explore new technologies.

Salary and Other Compensation:
The annual salary for this position is between $94,000.00-$105,000.00 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position is also eligible for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant's applicable plans.
