Coffee Manager information

What is a coffee manager?

Coffee managers oversee the daily operations of coffee shops or cafes, ensuring quality service, product consistency, and customer satisfaction. Their responsibilities include managing staff, handling inventory, setting schedules, and maintaining facility standards. They may also be involved in hiring, training, and developing strategies to increase sales and profitability. A coffee manager often works closely with baristas and other team members to create a positive work environment and uphold the business's brand and quality standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a coffee manager?

To thrive as a Coffee Manager, you need expertise in coffee preparation, inventory management, and team leadership, often supported by experience in food service or hospitality. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, scheduling software, and health and safety regulations is typically required. Strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities, and customer service orientation help you create a positive environment for both staff and customers. These skills are crucial for ensuring smooth daily operations, maintaining product quality, and fostering customer loyalty in a competitive market.

What are some common challenges a coffee manager faces in maintaining product quality and consistency across shifts?

A Coffee Manager often encounters challenges in ensuring that drinks and products consistently meet brand standards, especially when managing a team with varying levels of experience. This requires continuous staff training, regular quality checks, and clear communication of expectations. Additionally, managing inventory to prevent shortages or waste, and adapting to customer feedback, are crucial to maintaining high-quality service. By fostering a collaborative environment and implementing standardized procedures, Coffee Managers can help their teams deliver a consistently excellent customer experience.

We’re partnering with a growing retailer seeking a Coffee Shop Manager to lead daily operations for a high-volume coffee shop environment.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys leading teams, creating a great guest experience, maintaining high product quality, and keeping daily operations running smoothly. The Coffee Shop Manager will oversee staffing, training, scheduling, inventory, cash handling, cleanliness, food safety, and key performance metrics while partnering closely with store leadership.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead daily coffee shop operations, including opening/closing procedures, customer experience, product quality, cleanliness, and operational standards.
  • Recruit, hire, train, coach, schedule, and manage performance for baristas and other team members.
  • Manage inventory, ordering, vendor relationships, equipment needs, cash handling, and daily deposits.
  • Monitor sales, labor costs, food/beverage margins, and other key metrics to support profitability and consistent execution.
  • Support the broader retail operation as needed, including POS transactions, customer service, stocking, merchandising, and store cleanliness.

Ideal background:

  • Previous leadership experience in a coffee shop, restaurant, QSR, fast casual, hospitality, or high-volume customer-facing environment.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and team leadership skills.
  • Comfortable managing labor, scheduling, inventory, cost controls, food safety, and daily operational routines.
  • Hands-on leader who can build a positive team culture while maintaining speed, quality, and consistency.
  • Flexible and willing to work early mornings, weekends, holidays, and business-needs-based shifts.
