The Maintenance Manager is a hands-on leader responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of operations at the Brooklyn Center Roasting Plant. This role partners closely with the maintenance team on the production floor, providing technical support, coaching, and guidance while driving preventive maintenance, equipment reliability, and continuous improvement to support production, quality, and service goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of maintenance technicians to deliver safe, compliant, and high-quality maintenance execution, while building capability, accountability, and engagement across the team.
  • Own equipment uptime and asset performance by partnering with plant leadership to identify, prioritize, and implement mechanical, electrical, and facilities improvements that support production continuity.
  • Lead annual and long-range capital planning, and partner with vendors, OEMs, engineering firms, and the Plant Engineer to design, install, and integrate new equipment that supports growth, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Direct equipment installation and start-up activities, establishing and enforcing Commissioning, Qualification, and Validation (CQV) standards to ensure regulatory readiness, complete documentation, and vendor accountability.
  • Establish and drive a comprehensive maintenance strategy, including preventive and predictive maintenance programs, effective CMMS use, labor planning, and spare parts control to reduce downtime and extend asset life.
  • Set clear expectations for performance, safety, and conduct, and hold the team accountable to Peet's standards, policies, and ways of working.
  • Manage the maintenance budget, spare parts inventory, and service contracts to balance cost control, parts availability, and long-term asset health.
  • Coordinate external service providers and vendor repairs to ensure timely resolution of equipment issues and continuity of operations.
  • Build organizational capability by identifying skill gaps, implementing targeted training plans, and coaching employees to support current operations and future technology adoption.
  • Maintain facility and equipment documentation, including layout drawings, installation records, manuals, specifications, and blueprints.
  • Ensure compliance with housekeeping, food safety, sanitation, and GMP standards, while continuously improving the preventive maintenance program and overall equipment reliability.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • 5+ years of progressive maintenance leadership experience in a manufacturing environment, with demonstrated success leading teams and executing capital projects (Food & Beverage or CPG preferred).
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical) or related field is preferred; equivalent technical experience will be considered.
  • Mechanical & Systems: Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical schematics, including blueprints, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic diagrams, with strong troubleshooting skills in mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Systems Management: Demonstrated experience administering a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for work orders, spare parts, asset tracking, and labor planning.
  • Team Development: Proven ability to lead, coach, and hold technical teams accountable while developing capability, improving performance, and building a strong safety culture.
  • Problem Solving & Communication: Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to define problems, collect data, implement root-cause solutions, influence cross-functional partners, and translate technical issues into clear business decisions.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal safety regulations (OSHA, NFPA 70E), as well as welding and metal fabrication techniques.
  • Working proficiency in Microsoft Project and the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience processing invoices and evaluating vendor proposals based on price, lead time, quality, and business value.

Preferred:

  • Electrical & Automation: Strong working knowledge of PLCs (Siemens/Allen-Bradley) and SCADA systems; ability to troubleshoot logic and oversee integration.
  • Capital Projects: Proven ability to manage capital projects (CapEx) from scope definition through installation and commissioning.
  • Experience with CQV and GMP standards is a plus.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Exposures:

This role works in a manufacturing environment and may require standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending, reaching, and working around moving mechanical equipment. The position also requires the ability to occasionally lift and move items weighing up to 30 lbs. Candidates must be able to work safely in an industrial setting and use required personal protective equipment.


The environmental exposures for this position are:

  • Airborne particles, fumes, high places, moving parts, muscular strain, noise, odors,high temperatures

The target annual base salary range for this position is $130,000-145,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including the applicant's qualifications, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education, certifications or licenses, other legitimate non-discriminatory business factors, and the geographic location of the role. In addition to base pay, individuals in this position may also be eligible to earn bonuses.
