A centralized order entry (COE) pharmacist ensures that medication orders meet standards for patient care. In this role, you monitor prescriptions that come in, verify the accuracy of the order, and ensure that the dosage and type of medication are appropriate for the patient's condition. You also check all the medications that have been prescribed for the patient for potential interactions and allergies. As you monitor orders, you can contact the prescribing physician or other staff to ask questions, point out potential dangers, or recommend changes. COE pharmacists are also responsible for the accuracy of data entered into the pharmacy system.
