Job description

Design-focused engineering role | Industrial & furnace applications
Tenova is looking for an Electrical Engineer to join our Electrical & Automation Engineering team, supporting the design and execution of electrical and control systems for industrial furnace projects and associated equipment, primarily within the steel industry.
This role is ideal for early-career engineers who enjoy technical design, cross-functional collaboration, and working on complex industrial projects from concept through execution.
What you'll do
You'll contribute to the electrical and control system design of large-scale industrial projects, working closely with engineering, project management, and suppliers. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Reviewing contract requirements, specifications, and technical documentation to ensure project compliance
  • Developing electrical design deliverables, including drawing and document lists and design schedules
  • Designing electrical power distribution and control systems for industrial furnace applications
  • Performing electrical calculations for proper sizing and validation of components
  • Selecting electrical and control equipment based on operating conditions, safety requirements, applicable codes, and cost considerations
  • Preparing technical specifications and requisitions for electrical and control system components
  • Reviewing and approving vendor technical submittals
  • Coordinating with mechanical, automation, and project engineering teams to ensure integrated system design
  • Overseeing the development of electrical drawings produced by designers or external partners
  • Supporting Project Managers with technical input throughout project execution
  • Preparing project documentation such as operating manuals, maintenance documentation, and technical reports
  • Ensuring compliance with Tenova procedures, ISO standards, and applicable electrical codes

What we're looking for
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • 1-5 years of experience in electrical engineering roles related to industrial or heavy-industrial projects
  • Solid knowledge of low-voltage electrical systems and industrial control instrumentation
  • Working knowledge of applicable electrical codes and standards
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities across concurrent projects
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel

Nice to have:
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or Microsoft Project
  • Exposure to EPC or EPCM project environments
  • Experience in the steel, metals, or industrial furnace industry
  • Knowledge of an additional foreign language

Travel
  • Occasional domestic and international travel may be required.

Salary: $80,000 - $100,000 per year, depending on experience and location.
