Extraordinary Projects need Exceptional Talent
DESCRIPTION:
As a Field Cost Engineer at Tutor Perini Corporation, reporting to the Project Manager and/or Senior Project Engineer on the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) Division 20 Project in downtown Los Angeles, CA you will perform routine and non-routine cost/estimating assignments, which require the selection and application of resource monitoring and control principles, techniques, and technical knowledge of a construction project. Position responsible for timeliness and accuracy of reports for the project. This includes performing tasks that include, but are not limited to:
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Review Owner ordered extra work documents for accuracy and completeness and develop questions as they relate to assigned scope of work
  • Develop scope of work packages to define project work requirements through narratives, checklists, and quantity take-off for change order pricing
  • Solicit subcontractor/vendor quotations, prepare and distribute change order document packages, respond to inquiries, being knowledgeable of respective scopes of work and responsibilities
  • Evaluate and analyze subcontractor/vendor proposals to ensure accuracy in scope. (Quantities, schedule, inclusions, exclusions, etc.)
  • Prepare subcontractors/vendors price analysis sheets
  • Coordinate with operations team on this design-bid-build project to support development of cost and schedule proposals (CSP)
  • Finalize cost proposals for submission to the client
  • Assist with change order negotiations and finalize agreed upon terms, conditions, and price
  • Assist with purchasing and definition of subcontractor/ vendor agreements scope of work
  • Perform tasks required to develop and maintain budgets for the project. Includes coding timesheets, invoices, etc., collecting actual installed, monitor progress per cost account, etc.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with multiple Changes at the same time
  • Ability to understand construction documents and develop scopes of work
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills both written and oral
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and Word primarily)
  • Working knowledge of take-off software or similar a plus
  • Working knowledge of estimating software
  • Manage assigned Contract Specification Sections
  • Coordination of Subcontractors construction activities and schedule completion.
  • Review, submit and administer submittals, RFIs, and CWPs.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
  • 3 - 5 years of heavy civil construction experience or similar construction cost/estimating experience or equivalent combinations training and related experience.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to select/apply resource monitoring and control techniques i.e., cost accounting, budget analysis, etc., as well as an understanding of the nature of process systems, structures and construction technology required.
  • Commitment to safety and quality. Knowledge of construction safety and current federal & OSHA Requirements.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
  • Strong work ethic - Highly motivated and willing to do what it takes to get the job done right.
  • Experience in fixed price, design-build, and/ or self-perform estimating a plus
  • Experience with Government projects a plus
  • Experience with sitework, concrete, utilities, systems, or rail, a plus
  • Candidates local to Los Angeles, California preferred
