Position Summary
One component of the Institute of Spiritual Health and Wellness is to oversee the CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) program for Residents and Interns at Northside Hospital—Atlanta and Northside Hospital—Gwinnett. In those settings they will serve alongside staff chaplains providing pastoral and spiritual care to patients, families, and staff. This is an extension of CHRIS 180’s mission to heal children, strengthen families and build community. The Chaplain Intern works at Northside Hospital, Inc. to provide emotional and spiritual care to the patients, families, and staff within the healthcare system. Under the supervision of the director of the Institute, a Certified Educator or a Certified Educator Candidate will work to help patients, families and staff find the spiritual path that will help lead to their healing. Participate with interdisciplinary staff at their assigned hospital to provide wholistic care conducive to helping individuals find their spiritual path without imposing one’s own perspectives. Provides spiritual care throughout the day, during evening and throughout the overnight shift according to a negotiated schedule. That care is provided through conversation, prayer, rituals, and presence depending on the needs of the patient.
Role and Responsibilities
1. Commits to working in the area of spiritual care with an openness to all forms of spirituality and a willingness to learn about spiritual faith or practices with which they are unfamiliar.
2. Works with the staff chaplains and resident chaplains of Northside Hospital, Inc. to build supportive relationships with patients, families and staff within the healthcare system.
3. Will be available, under supervision, to provide short-term spiritual care to people in moral or spiritual distress, experiencing physical or emotional trauma
4. Provides spiritual care services to patients and families which might involve providing rituals and services in response to community events or traumas.
5. Participates, as needed, in on call rotation with all CPE students and occasionally staff chaplains at a Northside Hospital location.
6. Assists in carrying out the mission and values of CHRIS 180 while upholding the standards of excellence of Northside Hospital, Inc.
7. Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with CHRIS 180’s policies and procedures.
8. Complies with the Association of Professional Chaplains’ Common Standards for Professional Chaplaincy as well as the Common Code of Ethics for Chaplains, Counselors and Pastoral Educators and the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education’s Code of Professional Ethics for ACPE Members.
9. Also complies with the policies and best practices of CHRIS 180.

Chaplains must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skills necessary to provide care/services appropriate to the age of the clients served in their program. 1. Some training in theological reflection; enough to speak about spiritual and theological issues with passion and cognitive understanding.

4. Ability to do evening and weekend work as needed.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to effectively present spiritual and non-medical information and respond to questions from patients, families, and staff.

Ability to write reports, chart notes, verbatims, reflections, business, or pastoral correspondence in line with the responsibilities of a chaplain.

Schedule
Flexible as the hours may vary, but a minimum of 40 hours a week and any hours over 40 will be compensated with time off.
