To keep pace with expansion, we're adding a Part Time Coding & Audit Contractor to our remote operations team
Join us in pioneering the future of mental health.
Job Summary
We're looking for a detail oriented contractor to help keep our claims accurate and our documentation audit ready. The core of this role is auditing coded claims against clinical documentation and catching the patterns that create compliance risk, things like unsupported add on codes, E/M mismatches, and template errors. Early on, you'll also do some direct coding as our internal coding tool is validated; that work tapers over time as the tool matures and auditing becomes the primary focus. You'll also support an annual MIPS/QPP eligibility review across our provider portfolio. Over time, this role will also take on payer audits as they come in.
This is a strong fit for someone who's as comfortable reviewing and correcting coded output as they are producing it, and who can flag a documentation pattern clearly enough that a provider can actually act on it.
Key Responsibilities
  • Audit coded claims against underlying clinical documentation to identify unsupported codes, documentation gaps, and recurring errors.
  • Code claims directly, spending part of your time on direct coding work.
  • Flag documentation patterns, with enough specificity to support clinician facing compliance feedback.
  • Respond to payer audits as they come in, handling documentation requests and audit responses alongside our Head of RCM.
  • Support MIPS/QPP eligibility review for our provider portfolio.
  • Escalate unclear or exception cases rather than guessing.
  • Maintain accurate records of audit findings and coding activity using our tracking tools.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Strong, recent hands on experience with medical or behavioral health coding and auditing.
  • Comfortable auditing and correcting coded claims.
  • Strong written communication, able to explain a documentation issue clearly enough for a provider to fix it.
  • Reliable, self directed, and comfortable working independently.
  • Willingness to sign a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) and comply with HIPAA requirements for handling protected health information (PHI).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification (CPC) is a plus but not required if experience is strong.
  • Behavioral health/psych coding background, especially E/M and psychotherapy coding.
  • Prior audit and compliance based experience.

Schedule & Compensation
  • Contract position, part-time, at 10 to 15 hours per week.
  • Flexible scheduling: contractor determines when and how work gets completed within weekly deliverables, with no set hours or shift requirement.
  • Remote, work from anywhere in the U.S. (reliable high speed internet required).
  • Competitive hourly rate, commensurate with experience.

Why Join Us?
  • Work from anywhere in the U.S.
  • Flexible, part time schedule.
  • Direct exposure to behavioral health coding across a multi-state, multi-specialty provider portfolio.
