I. BASIC FUNCTION:

Maintains the overall physical operation of the clinical area and assists the Dentist(s) in the delivery of dental care services.

JOB DESCRIPTION

DEPARTMENT: DENTAL SERVICES

JOB TITLE: DENTAL ASSISTANT

DENTAL ASSISTANT

III. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintains the physical condition of the clinical area and the dental equipment and instruments used.
  2. Coordinates patient flow with the receptionist and the dental provider(s).
  3. Performs procedures such as x-ray exposure, fluoride therapy, patient study and working models, etc
  4. Prepares patients for general and specific examinations in accordance with Center protocols.
  5. Maintains the inventory and proper sterilization of all instruments and supplies, excluding medicines, and prepares rooms daily.
  6. Assists dental provider(s) in treatments, diagnostic exams and surgical interventions.
  7. Coordinates preparation of outgoing lab work and notifications of patients for follow-up.
  8. Coordinates patient recall system.
  9. Maintains records and statistical data as assigned.
  10. Uses four-handed dental technique.
  11. Performs Blood pressure, temperature, pulse and respiration taking skills for workup and monitoring of patients --- ie. Vital signs.
  12. Knowledge of and proper handling and mixing of dental materials, cements, etc.
  13. Maintains Universal Precautions.
  14. Computer use and knowledge.
  15. Maintains CPR Certification, continuing education requirements.

IV. PERIODIC DUTIES:

  1. Participates in Health Center staff problem solving groups.
  2. Attends and participates in department meetings, etc.
  3. Performs other duties as assigned.

DENTAL ASSISTANT

V. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

Inside Health Center: All inclusive.

Outside Health Center: Patients/Clients, students, vendors, community health agencies, and visitors, etc.

VI. QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School diploma or G.E.D. certificate required.
  2. Completion of accredited Dental Assistant Program and/or 2-3 years successful work experience as a Dental

Assistant required.

VII. CONTINUED EDUCATION:

As required by certification.
