Tech & Data Program Summer 2027 - Software Engineer Intern
Program Overview

As a Software Engineer Intern, you will help design, build, test, and enhance applications that support our customers, employees, and business operations. You'll work alongside experienced engineers in a collaborative Agile environment, applying modern software development practices to create solutions that deliver measurable business value.

About the Experience
The Hartford's Technology, Data, AI, and Operations organization offers an immersive summer internship program designed to help students explore careers in software engineering, data engineering, cybersecurity, AI, analytics, data science, and technology operations within the insurance industry.
As part of The Hartford's growing investment in AI and advanced technologies, interns will gain exposure to emerging capabilities such as generative AI, machine learning, and intelligent automation while contributing to meaningful projects that support business and customer outcomes.
This internship provides hands-on experience developing software solutions, collaborating with Agile teams, and learning how technology drives innovation across the enterprise.
This role is a hybrid position in Charlotte, NC. Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship now or in the future.

Depending on your role and project assignments, your experience may include:
- Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications and services that support business and customer needs.
- Collaborate with engineers, product owners, and business stakeholders in an Agile environment to deliver technology solutions.
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including coding, debugging, testing, deployment, documentation, and code reviews.
- Leverage modern programming languages, development frameworks, databases, and cloud technologies to build scalable and reliable solutions.
- Use AI-powered development tools and explore emerging technologies to enhance productivity, improve software quality, and support innovation.
- Apply technical and analytical problem-solving skills to improve application performance, security, and customer experiences, and present outcomes to stakeholders.
- Undergraduate or graduate student expecting to graduate in May 2028 with a Bachelor's or Master's degree and a GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Engineering, or another STEM-related field
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
- Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
- Curiosity and willingness to learn new technologies and challenge assumptions
- Ability to analyze complex problems and develop practical technical solutions

Experience and exposure to some or all of the following:
- Programming Languages: Java, Python, C#, JavaScript, SQL, .NET
- Web Development: HTML, CSS, React, Angular, APIs, or modern web application frameworks
- Cloud Technologies: AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform
- Software Engineering Practices: Object-oriented programming, testing frameworks, source control, CI/CD, or DevOps concepts
- Cybersecurity: Secure coding practices, cyber defense concepts, or security frameworks
- AI & Emerging Technologies: Familiarity with AI/ML concepts, generative AI tools, or interest in applying emerging technologies to business challenges
- Agile Ways of Working: Experience working on Agile teams, collaborative projects, or product-focused development efforts
Our internship program is designed as a pipeline for future full-time opportunities. High-performing interns may be considered for full-time roles within The Hartford's Technology & Data organization.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
