Job description

Job Title Digital Solutions Architect


Position Location Raleigh, NC. Hybrid Role - Two days a week in office.


Job Summary

The Digital Solutions Architect designs, documents, and maintains the high‑level structure of the Credit Union's Digital Platforms. This role provides architectural leadership across systems, software, infrastructure, integrations, and services to ensure digital solutions align with business goals, regulatory requirements, security standards, and industry best practices. Serving as the Digital Platforms subject matter expert, the Digital Solutions Architect collaborates with internal teams and vendors to drive scalable, secure, and high‑performing solutions that enhance the member experience.


As a key contributor to the Coastal team, your responsibilities will be:



  • (30%) Digital Platform Architecture and Solution Design: Design and maintain the high‑level architecture for Digital Platforms, including systems, software, services, and interfaces. Define architecture standards, technology stacks, and integration points that support business objectives, improve member service, and ensure scalability, reliability, and maintainability.

  • (20%) Technical Direction, Standards, and Governance: Define and guide architectural direction in alignment with Coastal's IT and industry best practices, regulatory requirements, and security protocols. Ensure digital solutions comply with applicable standards while supporting long‑term technology strategy and business growth. Serve as the Digital Platforms SME for architecture, infrastructure, and technical decision‑making.

  • (15%) Documentation: Develop and maintain comprehensive system, solution, and technical documentation, including requirements, specifications, diagrams, and design standards. Ensure documentation supports operational continuity, vendor collaboration, audits, and future enhancements.

  • (15%) Vendor, Platform, and Performance Optimization: Evaluate and guide optimization of vendors, systems, and tools to ensure effective performance management. Provide architectural oversight related to platform availability, recovery objectives (RTO/RPO), internal and vendor system resiliency, and key performance indicators (KPIs) supporting high availability and high‑performance digital services.

  • (10%) Cross‑Functional Collaboration and Requirements Analysis: Collaborate with business, digital, and technology teams to gather and analyze business requirements. Translate business needs into architectural solutions and provide recommendations that balance member experience, operational efficiency, security, and cost effectiveness.

  • (10%) Providing Guidance: Act as a trusted advisor to peers, leaders, and vendors by communicating architectural decisions, trade‑offs, and future‑state vision. Drive shared understanding of digital architecture across the organization and contribute to continuous improvement and innovation initiatives.

Experience:



  • Eight years of experience with the design, implementation, operation, and support of end-user-facing distributed systems, servers, networking, and security technologies, including: web servers, TCP/IP, VPNs, HTTP(S), X.509, SAML, mTLS, API gateways, SCA, and SAST/DAST code scanning

  • Experience with the following:

    • Software architecture, design patterns, and best practices

    • API design, RESTful web services, microservices architecture, and cloud-based solutions

    • Writing multi-table SQL queries, Microsoft Office, diagramming tools, and large‑scale digital transformation project planning



  • Exposure to all technological aspects of a financial institution is highly desirable

  • Exposure to security and compliance standards including PCI, GDPR, and SOC2


Education:

Related bachelor's degree or four additional years of experience in lieu of degree
