Job description

Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Employment Services Coordinator and/or Employment Services Director, the Job Coach ? Retail provides vocational training and direct-support services to youth and adults working in a thrift-store environment. This position supports members as they learn retail skills such as sorting donations, pricing merchandise, stocking shelves, operating the sales floor, and providing customer service.
The Job Coach works closely with retail leadership, employers, and team members to ensure members receive meaningful vocational experiences that promote independence, confidence, and workplace success.
The Job Coach ? Retail assists members in learning and completing retail-specific job tasks using structured teaching strategies and an understanding of individual learning styles. This role requires strong communication, patience, and the ability to model professional retail behavior in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Functions

Retail-Specific Responsibilities
? Supports members in completing thrift-store tasks such as sorting donations, identifying sellable items, tagging and pricing merchandise, and preparing items for the sales floor.
? Trains members in merchandising skills including organizing racks, stocking shelves, creating displays, and maintaining store appearance.
? Coaches members on customer-service expectations such as greeting customers, answering basic questions, and providing assistance when appropriate.
? Monitors member performance at the register area (if applicable), supporting tasks such as bagging, organizing impulse items, and maintaining cleanliness.
? Ensures safe handling of donations, including lifting, sorting, and identifying hazardous or inappropriate items.
Models and reinforces retail professionalism including dress code, communication, time management, and teamwork.
General Job Coach Responsibilities
? Works with individuals or small groups to reinforce learning of skills introduced by the Employment Services Coordinator or Director.
? Assists in developing individualized teaching strategies based on member needs, interests, and abilities.
? Monitors daily work performance and provides ongoing feedback and support.
? Communicates concerns or observations regarding member performance, behavior, or safety.
