Ophthalmology Technician - Nemours Children's Hospital, Delaware

Position Summary: We are excited to announce a position opening for an ophthalmology technician in the Division of Neurology at Nemours Children's Health in Wilmington, DE.

We seek a technician to assist our neuro-ophthalmologist with patient care and perform auxiliary tests on patients as directed, with the paramount goal of providing service excellence. This includes performing the initial patient work-up before eye dilation and other physician-led portions of the visit, as well as performing ophthalmic imaging, such as OCT, fundus photography, visual field testing, fundus autofluorescence, and fluorescein angiogram. On-site training can be provided for specific tests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Obtain patient history and perform initial patient assessment, as directed by the physician
  • Perform diagnostic procedures
  • Instill topical medications into the eye
  • Enter appropriate clinical information into EPIC, the electronic medical record
  • Assist the physician with the neuro-ophthalmologic examination
  • Educate patients and families, as directed by the physician
  • Approach all clinical interactions with a patient focused manner, demonstrating a strong customer service, service excellence orientation
  • Work closely with neuro-ophthalmology physician to facilitate patient flow and maintain efficiency
  • Maintain effective, team-based work relationships with physicians and other members of the health care team in order to coordinate and facilitate the delivery of optimal patient care.

Additional Requirements:

  • High School Diploma
  • Two years of satisfactory, full-time work experience under ophthalmologic or optometric supervision; or graduation from an accredited program for Ophthalmic Technicians plus one year work experience.
  • JCAHPO certification at either the COA, COT, or COMT level preferred. Will provide on the job training if the applicant has experience in various capacities within the medical field. If trained, it is expected that the applicant sits for JCAT basic home study course within 3-9 months of employment; and test for COA Certification within 12 months of hire date. Failure to do so may result in termination of employment.
  • BLS from American Heart Association within 60 days of your start date.
