Receiver

Substitute Position

Varied Hours


 The Co-op frequently hires substitute employees to cover absences and planned time off. Substitutes earn an hourly wage, accrue a paid time off benefit, and are eligible for the employee discount on Co-op purchases. In addition, substitutes have preferred access over outside applicants to jobs with regular hours at the Co-op. Substitutes may work a range of hours up to 40 hours weekly, depending on the Co-op's need and the substitute's availability. The most common substitute positions are cashier, grocery clerk, and prepared foods worker. Substitutes must work a minimum of 48 hours per quarter to maintain sub status. 


Purpose: Responsible for the care and custody of all HMC products from time of receipt from our vendors until items are either stored or removed from the receiving area for placement for sale on the floor. Receiving staff are responsible for validating that HMC has received the right product, in the right quantity at the right cost and notifying buying staff of any discrepancies.


Status: Reports to Storekeeping Manager

Responsibilities:

Physically receive vendor deliveries by unloading delivery vehicles as required.

Ensure that products received are consistent with HMC quality standards by brief physical inspections of deliveries.

Validate that the products received are what were ordered and in the quantity that was ordered. This will involve counting products, and matching UPC codes. This will require either matching purchasing paperwork to physical counts and/or using electronic systems to aid in these activities.

Promptly notify buyers of out-of-stocks, miss-picks, damaged goods and incorrect or changed UPC.

Identify discrepancies between the vendor's cost and HMC purchase price.

Utilize HMC computerized system as required to perform the above duties.

Work diplomatically with store personnel and vendors to assure compliance with HMC receiving procedures.

Maintain the receiving and product staging areas in a neat and safe manner. Stage product for effective stocking and assist with stocking as needed.

Process returns for credit from vendors as advised by relevant buyers.

Maintain back stock prior to movement to floor, in orderly and accessible manner.

Be responsible for safety in the workplace by creating a safe work environment, reporting safety concerns to a manager, and adhering to all safety rules and regulations.

Follow all department policies and procedures.

Ability to use pallet jacks and other light-duty material handling equipment.

Ability to follow all safety policies and procedures of Hunger Mountain Co-op.

Ability to provide excellent service to customers, vendors and coworkers.

Ability to work well with others in a cooperative environment where teamwork and constant communication are essential.

Ability to be physically present onsite at the Coop to perform the requirements of this position.


Substitute Employees are required to meet the minimum of 48 hours per quarter to retain sub status (unless hours offered were not sufficient).
