Location: Rochester, NYย 

The Role:ย 

D3 Embedded is seeking an experienced Senior Embedded Software Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimization of software for embedded systems. This role involves architecting and implementing firmware solutions, debugging complex system issues, and ensuring high performance and reliability. The ideal candidate has extensive experience with embedded C/C++, real-time operating systems (RTOS),ย Linuxย operating systems (Ubuntu,ย Yocto,ย etc),ย microcontroller architectures,ย System on Chip SoC architectures,ย and low-level hardware interactions. Strong problem-solving skills, leadership traits, and the ability to mentor junior engineers are essential. This position plays a critical role in driving innovation and advancing embedded technology in our products.ย 

Theย Responsibilities:ย 

  • All phases of the product development cycle including:โ€ฏย 
  • requirements definition and architectureโ€ฏย 
  • software design and developmentโ€ฏย 
  • Software implementationโ€ฏย 
  • hardware bring-up, software/hardware integrationโ€ฏย 
  • verification and validation, and customer supportโ€ฏย 
  • Embedded processors running real-time operating systems or Embedded Linux on custom electronics.โ€ฏโ€ฏย 
  • Technical tasks including;โ€ฏโ€ฏย 
  • assistingย with board bring-upโ€ฏโ€ฏย 
  • developing driver and application-level codeโ€ฏโ€ฏย 
  • system verificationโ€ฏย 
  • Conductย andย overseeย code reviews, unit testing, debugging, and software/hardware integration.โ€ฏย 
  • Technical direction and leadership in a non-supervisoryย capacityย for complex engineering projectsย 
  • Support project planning efforts including task definition and work effort.โ€ฏโ€ฏย 
  • Develop and evaluate plans and criteria for various projects and activities you will do.โ€ฏย 
  • Embedded Linux platformsโ€ฏย 
  • Open-source Linux and associated SDKsโ€ฏย 
  • GCC/GNU toolchainโ€ฏย 
  • Developing & identifying tools / methods for better design reuse & process improvementย 
  • Design reviews and technical oversightย 
  • Coaching & mentoring less experienced engineersย 

Additionalย Responsibilities:ย 

  • Other duties as assignedย 

The Right Person Will Have:ย 

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering discipline and/or equivalent years of experienceย 
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Embedded Software roleย 
  • Excellent problem solving & troubleshooting skills.ย 
  • Ability to read schematics and debug digital hardware using oscilloscope, logic analyzer, or similar tools for troubleshooting.ย 
  • Experience writing embedded device driversย 
  • Experience debugging embedded platformsย 
  • Knowledge of embedded software and firmware development, including C and C++.ย 
  • Up to date experience with Embedded Linux platforms, configuration, board support package, kernel drivers, and device treeย 
  • Experience using GIT version control systemย 
  • Experience developing with GCC/GNU toolchainย 
  • Experience with embedded camera and video processing is desirable.ย
