POSITION OVERVIEW

The High School Co-Op Student supports multiple areas of CalfCare operations by assisting in office administration, warehouse and shipping activities, and research and livestock operations depending on business needs, school availability, and department workload. This position is designed to provide students with practical workplace experience while developing professional skills in communication, organization, customer service, logistics, animal care, and research support.

This role operates in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment where adaptability, reliability, and a willingness to learn are essential. The student will work alongside veterinarians, research staff, warehouse personnel, and administrative team members to support CalfCare’s commitment to exceptional service, operational excellence, and advancing calf health and performance.

The High School Co-Op Student will rotate responsibilities as needed and gain exposure to multiple facets of veterinary business operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Office & Administrative Support

  • Answer phones and direct calls professionally and courteously.
  • Assist with filing, scanning, organizing, and maintaining company records.
  • Support customer service activities and assist with basic client communication.
  • Assist with preparation of invoices, statements, newsletters, and marketing materials.
  • Enter and maintain data accurately within company systems.
  • Assist scheduling and administrative staff with daily tasks and special projects.
  • Support internal communication and maintain a professional office environment.

Warehouse & Shipping Support

  • Assist with preparing and packaging outgoing shipments.
  • Assist with labeling products and maintaining shipment documentation.
  • Support warehouse cleanliness and inventory accuracy.
  • Assist with loading and unloading products as trained and permitted.
  • Follow company procedures related to inventory control and quality standards.

Research & Operations Support

  • Assist research and veterinary teams with daily project preparation and activities.
  • Support livestock care activities including feeding, bedding, cleaning, and observation under supervision.
  • Assist with organizing research supplies and maintaining equipment.
  • Help maintain barns, research facilities, and workspaces.
  • Assist with collecting and recording research data.
  • Follow all animal welfare, biosecurity, and safety procedures.
  • Participate in seasonal projects and general operational support as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Current enrollment in a high school co-op, internship, or work-based learning program.
  • Strong communication skills and professional demeanor.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and department assignments.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Interest in agriculture, veterinary medicine, research, logistics, or business operations preferred.
  • Previous agricultural, livestock, FFA, 4-H, or work experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30–50 pounds as appropriate for age and training.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical work for extended periods.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely work around livestock, warehouse environments, and office equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Combination of office, warehouse, research, and livestock environments.
  • Exposure to computers, phones, shipping materials, livestock, and agricultural settings.
  • Schedule will align with school co-op requirements and operational needs.
  • Variable work assignments depending on department workload and seasonal demands.
