Shop Manager (Diesel, CNG, Trailers, Chassis)


Job Summary:

  • Manage onsite fleet maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance programs while understanding diesel/CNG/heavy-truck repair
  • Manage preventive maintenance programs
  • Supervise shop mechanics
  • Oversee mechanical repairs and mechanic productivity
  • Review vendor repair estimates and control repair costs
  • Manage inventory
  • Use computers for shop/maintenance operations
  • Perform cost analysis
  • Have strong mechanical repair and supervisory experience

 Essential Requirements, Duties, and Responsibilities: 

  1. Diesel/CNG/heavy-truck expertise
    • 3-5 years’ experience working in a shop diagnosing breakdowns and managing repairs
  2. Shop management
    • 3 years’ shop-management experience required
    • Scheduling technicians and assigning work
    • Managing repair orders and workflow
    • Monitoring mechanic productivity
    • Managing parts, tires, inventory, and vendors
  3. People management
    • Supervising mechanics
    • Creating a team environment
    • Handling communication with drivers, internal customers, and vendors
  4. Fleet operations
    • Out of Service equipment tracking
    • BIT’s & PM inspections - scheduling/management
    • Breakdown analysis
    • Mobile mechanic coordination
    • Quality inspections
    • Fleet-maintenance software (Trimble/Transman)
  • Compliance and safety
    • Understanding of OSHA and EPA compliance
    • Administer Geotab and other telematics systems
    • Provide telematics and maintenance-related training
    • Pre/Post trip management
    • Maintaining a safe, organized shop
  • Administrative ability
    • Purchase orders and repair orders
    • Cost analysis
