Role overview

Own setups, run production, and keep quality tight on advanced Amada turret punch presses in a high-mix sheet metal job shop.

What you’ll do
  • Set up and operate CNC turret punch presses for sheet metal fabrication.
  • Pull programs, configure tooling, and validate machine readiness for each job.
  • Execute safe start-up and complete end-of-shift shutdowns.
  • Drive throughput—produce the maximum number of good parts in the least amount of time.
  • Manage frequent changeovers for short-run prototypes and longer production runs.
  • Use automation for material loading to streamline flow.
  • Edit G-code to fine-tune hit patterns and performance as needed.
  • Read prints, rough sketches, and customer samples; hold tolerances using calipers and other precision tools.
  • Read work orders/material tags; select correct stock; separate finished parts from scrap.
  • Record daily production counts accurately.
  • Move material with a pallet jack or forklift.
  • Continuously monitor cutting efficiency and adjust parameters to maintain quality and speed.
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance and keep the machine and area clean.
  • Work with maintenance technicians to diagnose issues when they arise.
  • Coordinate with engineering and fellow operators in a fast-paced environment.
  • Follow all safety rules and maintain excellent housekeeping.
What you bring
  • Experience in a sheet metal job shop/contract manufacturing setting (required).
  • Deep familiarity with turret punch press tooling—setup, changeover, and care.
  • Blueprint literacy and the ability to translate sketches/samples into accurate parts.
  • Comfort making G-code edits and understanding CNC logic.
  • Decisive, dependable, and committed to excellent attendance.
  • Capable of working in hot or cold plant temperatures.
  • Physically able to stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, squat, reach, and perform repetitive hand/finger motions.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs during the shift.
