Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced Toolmaker to support our metal stamping operations by building, repairing, and maintaining tooling used in punch press production. This position plays a critical role in ensuring tooling accuracy, equipment reliability, and overall production efficiency.

The ideal candidate will have strong machining abilities, excellent troubleshooting skills, and experience working with progressive dies and precision tooling.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, CAD models, and tooling specifications.
  • Build, repair, and maintain dies, fixtures, jigs, and other precision tooling components.
  • Set up and operate manual and CNC equipment including mills, lathes, grinders, and surface finishing machines.
  • Inspect, assemble, and test tooling to verify dimensional accuracy and performance.
  • Troubleshoot tooling and stamping issues to minimize downtime and improve production quality.
  • Work closely with engineering and production departments on tooling modifications and process improvements.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and tooling adjustments as needed.
  • Maintain documentation related to tooling repairs, revisions, and builds.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a Tool & Die apprenticeship program, technical training, or equivalent industry experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience in metal stamping toolmaking.
  • Experience with progressive dies, compound tooling, fixtures, gages, and secondary tooling.
  • Skilled in operating toolroom equipment such as grinders, mills, lathes, and CNC machining centers.
  • Strong knowledge of die setup, clearances, and metal flow in stamping applications.
  • Ability to read complex prints, die layouts, and GD&T specifications.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Experience working with high-strength materials and understanding tooling wear patterns.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with die protection systems and in-die sensors.
  • Familiarity with Haas CNC machines.
  • CAD/CAM software experience.
  • Exposure to lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
