CNC Lathe Setup Technician

We are a family-owned and operated precision machining company located in Mentor. Our shop has built a strong reputation for producing high-quality machined components while maintaining a supportive, team-oriented work environment.

We are currently seeking a CNC Lathe Setup Technician to join our team. This position is responsible for preparing CNC lathe machines for production, ensuring parts are produced accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with engineering specifications.

Responsibilities

    • Set up CNC lathe machines for production based on setup sheets and blueprints
    • Install and align workholding devices such as chucks, collets, and fixtures
    • Load CNC programs and verify correct machine setup before production runs
    • Install and set cutting tools including turning tools, boring bars, drills, and threading tools
    • Set tool offsets and work offsets
    • Perform first-piece inspections using precision measuring instruments
    • Troubleshoot machining issues including tool wear, chatter, or dimensional problems
    • Work closely with operators and supervisors to maintain efficient production
    • Maintain a clean and safe work environment

Qualifications

    • 3+ years of CNC lathe setup or advanced machining experience
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and GD&T
    • Strong knowledge of turning operations such as facing, threading, grooving, and boring
    • Experience with CNC controls such as Fanuc CNC Control or Haas CNC Control
    • Proficiency with measuring tools including micrometers, calipers, indicators, and thread gauges
    • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

    • Technical or trade school training in machining or manufacturing
    • Experience with CAM software such as Mastercam or Fusion 360
    • Experience with live tooling or mill-turn lathes
