What is a CNC SolidWorks professional?

CNC SolidWorks professionals are experts who use SolidWorks, a 3D CAD (computer-aided design) software, to design parts and assemblies that will be manufactured using CNC (computer numerical control) machines. They create detailed models and technical drawings, ensuring designs are optimized for CNC machining processes. These professionals bridge the gap between engineering design and manufacturing, making sure that digital models can be accurately produced by automated machinery. Their work involves both technical design skills and an understanding of manufacturing techniques.

How do CNC SolidWorks professionals typically collaborate with machinists and engineers during the product development process?

CNC SolidWorks professionals play a vital role in bridging the gap between design and manufacturing by working closely with both machinists and engineers. They are responsible for creating detailed 3D models and technical drawings, which are then reviewed with engineers for accuracy and feasibility. Collaboration with machinists is essential to ensure that the designs are manufacturable, selecting appropriate materials, and optimizing tool paths. Regular communication and feedback loops help address any design challenges early, resulting in smoother production runs and reduced errors.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CNC SolidWorks specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a CNC SolidWorks Specialist, you need strong proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD), machining processes, and a solid understanding of engineering drawings, typically backed by a technical diploma or degree in mechanical engineering or a related field. Familiarity with SolidWorks software, CNC programming languages (such as G-code), and experience with CAM software and CNC machine operation are essential. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are standout soft skills in this role. These skills ensure precise product design, efficient manufacturing workflows, and smooth collaboration between engineers and machinists.

Job description

Overview

We’re hiring a Manufacturing Engineer with 2+ years of experience to help us develop, implement, and optimize cost-effective manufacturing processes at our Maryville facility. Our plant relies on precision and efficiency to deliver world-class products—particularly within injection molding and assembly operations. We’re looking for a highly analytical, hands-on problem solver to elevate our operations.

This is an ownership-driven opportunity for an engineer who thrives on managing the complete lifecycle of manufacturing processes with minimal supervision. One day you might be researching material flow and cooling paths for complex injection molding dies, and the next you’re modifying MasterCAM solid models, coordinating a new product launch, or validating mold designs with external suppliers.

As you grow, so will your impact. You’ll lead critical cost-reduction and continuous improvement projects, champion lean principles, and collaborate cross-functionally with everyone from Product Engineering to Quality and Purchasing. We are a team-oriented environment that values autonomy, technical expertise, and results.

If you are excited by taking the lead on complex projects and making things better every day, we want to talk.

  • Drive New Product Launches: Coordinate the manufacturing launch of new and revised products, establishing goals, training team members, and evaluating results.
  • Manage Tooling & Equipment: Design, develop, test, source, and cost-justify various tools, machinery, and equipment for manufacturing methods. Use project management techniques to ensure tools, gauges, fixtures, and CMM/CNC/EDM programs are fully defined and implemented.
  • Supplier Collaboration: Review and validate mold designs with suppliers during initial stages, and coordinate repairs and design changes for injection molds.
  • Database & Routing Management: Take responsibility for manufacturing routing databases, maintaining the accuracy of operation sequences, labor hours, set-up/changeover times, machine cycle times, and work instructions.
  • CAD/CAM Operations: Create and modify MasterCAM manufacturing solid models to define processes as needed.
  • Cross-Functional Teamwork: Work closely with Product Engineering, Marketing, Production, Quality, Purchasing, and Accounting to maintain project focus and resolve challenges.
