What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CNC Machining Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a CNC Machining Engineer, you need expertise in machining processes, CAD/CAM software, materials science, and a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with CNC programming languages (such as G-code), experience with CNC machinery, and certifications like NIMS or Six Sigma are highly valuable. Analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and strong attention to detail are essential soft skills that set candidates apart. These skills and qualifications are crucial for ensuring efficient, precise, and high-quality manufacturing in a competitive industrial environment.

What are some common challenges CNC Machining Engineers face when working with new materials or complex part designs?

CNC Machining Engineers often encounter challenges such as optimizing machining parameters for unfamiliar materials, which can require extensive testing to prevent tool wear or poor surface finishes. Complex part geometries may necessitate advanced fixture design and creative programming strategies to ensure precision and manufacturability. Collaboration with design engineers is also crucial to address potential manufacturability issues early on and to suggest design modifications that improve production efficiency without compromising quality.

What are CNC Machining Engineers?

CNC Machining Engineers are professionals who design, develop, and oversee the manufacturing processes involving Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines. They program, set up, and optimize CNC equipment to produce precision parts and components, ensuring quality and efficiency. Their role often includes working with CAD/CAM software, troubleshooting machining issues, and collaborating with design and production teams. CNC Machining Engineers are essential in industries such as automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing, where precision engineering is critical.

What is the difference between Cnc Machining Engineer vs Cnc Programmer?

AspectCnc Machining EngineerCnc Programmer
CredentialsTypically requires a degree in engineering or manufacturing technology, with certifications in CNC machiningOften requires technical training or certification in CNC programming, with some engineering background
Work EnvironmentDesigns machining processes, oversees production, and ensures quality in manufacturing settingsDevelops and writes CNC code, tests programs, and troubleshoots machine operations
Industry UsageUsed across manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, and industrial sectorsPrimarily found in manufacturing and machine shops

While both roles involve CNC technology, Cnc Machining Engineers focus on process design and optimization, whereas Cnc Programmers specialize in creating and testing CNC code to operate machines efficiently.

We are seeking a CNC Machinist to manufacture precision parts and components that support a diverse portfolio of engineered products. In this role, you’ll run CNC milling and turning equipment (with some manual machining and bench work as needed), execute setups and changeovers, and hold tight tolerances through disciplined process control and in-process inspection.

This is a hands-on shop-floor role for someone who takes pride in craftsmanship, works safely, and consistently delivers quality output with minimal supervision. You’ll contribute to a clean, organized, and continuously improving manufacturing environment, partnering with leads and teammates to troubleshoot issues, protect uptime, and hit production schedules.

Compensation

  • $24 - $34 / hr

Shift

  • 2nd shift
  • Monday - Wednesday from 4:30pm-5:00am
  • Thursday from 4:30pm-8:30pm

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision
  • 401(k) with match

Requirements

  • Run CNC Equipment to Standard – Operate and monitor CNC mills and lathes with minimal supervision, executing jobs in alignment with standard work, safety requirements, and quality expectations.
  • Perform Machine Setups & Changeovers – Prepare machines, load tools/fixtures, and complete timely setups and changeovers while maintaining process stability and production flow.
  • Machine and Modify Components – Use manual machines and bench tools (hand/power/pneumatic) to modify parts and assemblies to meet print and specification requirements.
  • Execute In-Process Inspection – Perform required quality checks, document measurements, and verify conformance using appropriate measuring tools and inspection methods.
  • Troubleshoot and Escalate Issues – Identify machining or quality problems early, take first-pass troubleshooting actions, and promptly communicate issues to the machining lead.
  • Maintain Tooling and Equipment Readiness – Oversee and care for tooling, gauges, measuring devices, and equipment to ensure reliable performance and repeatable results.
  • Support Preventive Maintenance – Complete required PM tasks and protocols for assigned machines and areas to protect uptime, accuracy, and safety.
  • Practice 5S and Workplace Organization – Maintain clean, organized workstations and follow 5S expectations to ensure a safe, efficient work environment.
  • Complete Production Documentation – Accurately complete production paperwork and required system data entry to support traceability, scheduling, and performance tracking.
  • Communicate Across Shifts – Participate in shift handoffs, meetings, and daily updates to ensure alignment on priorities, issues, and progress.
  • Contribute to Continuous Improvement – Support Lean initiatives and continuous improvement efforts focused on quality, throughput, waste reduction, and process reliability.
