Job Description

My Traverse City, MI client is in need of a Manufacturing Engineer/ CNC Programmer to join their team. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and executing manufacturing processes, along with continuous improvement of existing processes. This position will interface and collaborate with a cross functional team including Operations, Quality, Design Engineering, and Product Development.

Job Responsibilities:

Develop and implement CNC programs and detailed process plans for precision mill-turning and grinding

Specify and implement work holding and cutting tools for manufacturing operations

Develop standard work and time standards for machining and assembly processes

Define inspection methodologies and support quality issues

Lead production launch and improvement activities to support new and existing programs

Support the specification and launch of new equipment and processes

Apply LEAN manufacturing techniques to facilitate TAKT, flow, pull, waste reduction, and  support a continuous improvement culture

Lead application of data-driven methods to reduce costs and quality defects, such as FMEA, SPC, and PPAP

Apply statistical methods to troubleshoot processes and conduct root cause analysis

Support and manage NPI projects

Support product design activities to ensure manufacturing processes are developed in parallel and taken into account to support product and customer requirements

Qualifications

Required and Preferred Experience:

BS in mechanical or manufacturing engineering; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Minimum of 3 years relevant experience running production machines, both manual and CNC

Intimate knowledge of common machine tools including lathes, mills, mill/turn, and grinders

Experience with process, tooling, and fixture design

Strong programming capabilities of 3, 4 and 5 axis CNC machines. Preferably in ESPRIT

Experience and understanding of precision inspection methods and equipment

Strong Solid Edge, SolidWorks, or similar CAD software capabilities

Proficient in MS Office

Knowledge of DIN, SAE, ASTM and AGMA specifications

Knowledge of special processing operations such as Heat Treating, Non-Destructive Testing, Shot Peening, Coating, Plating and Painting

Knowledge of quality systems, including PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans, GR&R, Process Capabilities Studies

Experience with LEAN initiatives and root cause analysis

Understanding of GD&T

Project Management skills
