Job description

Title: Process Engineer
Job Type: Permanent/Direct Hire
Location: Macomb, MI
Onsite/Travel Requirements: Full-Time Onsite

Job Description

This role will lead the process & manufacturing engineering functions in our client's Government, Aerospace, and Defense Solutions (GADS) business unit for aerospace-type hardware applications. This role is influential for increasing customer confidence in GADS manufacturing capabilities and leads the conversion of technical & contract requirements into robust, repeatable, and efficient manufacturing processes that comply with AS9100, customer requirements, and flight-critical quality standards.

 

Qualifications

Required

  • 4-year degree in an Engineering discipline required (Mechanical, Industrial, or related)
  • At least 5 years in aerospace-type critical parts manufacturing.

Preferred

  • At least 8-10 years of experience in manufacturing, ideally CNC machining-centric operations. Preference for understanding of machining processes for materials like titanium & Inconel. Knowledge of fixtures & tooling for machining preferred.
  • Proven track record of increasing individual responsibilities and developmental success of your team members.
  • Computer proficiency, including M365, project management software, CAD competency (CAM, Vericut/simulation & 3D modeling a plus), also able to read blueprints and GD&T.
  • Experience with SPC, statistical analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma).
  • Effective writing and communication skills, able to explain complex issues to a wide array of audiences. Preference for experience with 3rd party audits..

 

Key Responsibilities

Process Development & Documentation

  • Lead, prepare, and implement manufacturing requirements necessary to meet customer requirements, including for Part Qualification/Re-Qualification, PFMEA, Control Plans, First Articles, etc.
  • Work with machining/tooling planners to define machining sequences, datums, cutting strategies, and in-process inspection requirements.
  • Ensure risk mitigation is accounted for during process development to meet internal and external requirements.
  • Partner with Quality on APQP and MSA/GR&R.

Continuous Improvement & Optimization

  • Develop, industrialize, and improve manufacturing processes for aerospace-type hardware applications.
  • Use manufacturing data to manage process control, develop & implement process improvement including creating and updating work instructions.
  • Champion wide-ranging organizational improvement efforts leveraging company standard Continuous Improvement resources including tools, processes, and corporate experts.

Technical Support, Troubleshooting, and Leadership

  • Coordinate multiple projects of med-high complexity and risk, including multiple sub-projects, and comprised of cross-functional and/or multi-site project team members.
  • Assist Quality with MRB root cause analysis and technically sound repair planning.
  • Support in technical training of Sales & Estimation and downstream process teams.
  • Help identify engineering & key technical organizational capability improvement opportunities. Provide guidance and support to lower-level engineers and other technical roles.
  • Maintains and actively supports improving safety of operations, adheres to safety procedures and regulations.
