Job Title: Tube Bending / CNC Operator (Bender Technician)

Location: Northern Stamping Inc 5900 Harvard Ave, Cleveland, Ohio 44105

Department: Tube Bending

Reports to: Karin Connor


Job Summary:

We are looking for a skilled CNC Operator to join our team. The Tube Bending Operator will be responsible for setting up and operating the CNC controlled tube bending machines to bend high-quality metal tubes according to customer specifications. The ideal candidate will have experience working with various tube bending machines, understanding technical drawings, and ensuring that the finished products meet quality and safety standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate Tube Bending Machines:
    • Operate CNC Controlled tube bending equipment to bend metal tubes according to customer specifications.
    • Replace and rebuild mandrels at frequent intervals
    • Perform tooling changes and setup new jobs when needed to meet customer demand
  • Quality Control:
    • Perform visual and functional checks to ensure the tubes meet customer or engineering standards using calipers and gauges.
    • Record inspection results and make necessary adjustments to the machine or process if needed.
  • Machine Maintenance:
    • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning on tube bending machines to ensure they are in good working condition.
    • Monitor and troubleshoot any mechanical issues with the bending equipment, addressing problems promptly to minimize downtime.
    • Maintain a clean and organized workspace in accordance with safety standards.
  • Blueprint Interpretation and Setup:
    • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine the correct tube bending process.
    • Set up machines to accommodate various tube sizes, materials, and bending angles.
  • Safety Compliance:
    • Follow all safety guidelines and use personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection and steel toe shoes.
    • Report any safety hazards or accidents to supervisors immediately.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with other team members, supervisors, and engineers to meet production goals and resolve any operational challenges.
    • Communicate effectively about production progress, challenges, and improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Experience:
    • Proven experience as a Tube Bending Operator or CNC Operator in the manufacturing industry is preferred.
    • Familiarity with tube bending machines (manual, hydraulic, CNC, etc.).
    • Basic knowledge of Motoman robotics preferred but not required.
  • Education:
    • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or certification in metalworking, machining, or a related field is preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and customer specifications.
    • Strong mechanical skills and attention to detail.
    • Familiarity with various tube bending techniques and processes.
    • Proficiency in using precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.).
    • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve machine issues.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to lift heavy tubes (up to 50 lbs.) and work in a physically demanding environment.
    • Ability to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks.
    • Comfortable working in a factory setting with exposure to noise and machinery.
