Job description

Summary:
The Wire Operator operates semi-automatic and CNC machinery to fabricate wire wrapped screens and related components. They follow manufacturing drawings, procedures and order forms to complete their daily tasks. Performing quality checks and ensures applicable documentation is filled out accurately as needed. This position requires identifying and the use of tools and materials, as well as forklift and overhead crane use. Shifts may involve various shifts and overtime hours depending on the scope of work and plant activity. This position will be based out of one of our facilities in Calgary, AB.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Excellent understanding of manufacturing drawings, shop order forms and weld procedures as they relate to wrapping.
  • Identify tools and materials as per work order.
  • Configure machinery to produce quality results as per procedures and quality requirements.
  • Perform quality control checks to ensure the product follows work order requirements.
  • Clearly and legibly complete paperwork as necessary.
  • Record and calculate material usage.
  • Able to read precision measuring equipment.
  • Unload shipments, weigh and receive goods when required.
  • Ensure tools and machinery are in good working order and maintained.
  • Required to undertake shop cleaning and regular preventative equipment maintenance.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures including but not limited to HSE and quality.
  • Always maintain good housekeeping practices.
  • Participate in training and safety meetings as required.
  • Lift and carry materials weighing up to 45 lbs., lift items weighing more than 45 lbs. with assistance from other workers, forklift and/or overhead hoist.
  • Active participation in FET’s Health, Safety and Environment program.
  • Other duties as required.

Skills/Knowledge

  • Dedicated to continuous improvement.
  • Operator forklift and crane training.
  • Able to meet deadlines while working in a safe manner.
  • Mechanically inclined, ability to use small hand tools and/or power tools.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Works well in a team environment.
  • Strong aptitude to understand drawings.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills,
  • Able to follow and understand both oral and written instructions in English.
  • Grade 12 basic math skills.

Education

  • Grade 12 or GED – additional education past high school would be an asset

Experience

  • Prior Manufacturing experience in a similar environment preferred.
  • Forklift and/or overhead crane training or experience considered an asset.
