What does a CNC machine repair technician do?

A CNC Machine Repair Technician is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing computer numerical control (CNC) machines used in manufacturing. Their tasks include troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues, performing routine maintenance, and ensuring machines operate efficiently and safely. They also replace worn parts, calibrate equipment, and may assist with installing new machinery. These technicians work closely with machine operators and engineers to minimize downtime and keep production running smoothly.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a CNC machine repair technician?

A CNC Machine Repair Technician needs a solid background in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, machine maintenance, and typically a technical diploma or associate degree in a related field. Familiarity with diagnostic tools, CNC controllers (such as Fanuc, Siemens, or Haas), and relevant safety certifications are commonly required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help technicians efficiently diagnose issues and coordinate repairs. These skills ensure timely machine uptime, minimize costly downtime, and maintain safe, efficient production environments.
