Job Summary:

The CNC Lathe Set-Up Operator is responsible for setting up and operating CNC (Computer Numerical Control) lathes to produce precision metal parts according to specifications. This role requires an understanding of machining processes, blueprint reading, and the ability to make adjustments to equipment to ensure accuracy and quality of finished products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate CNC lathes to machine parts according to blueprints, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Install and adjust tooling, fixtures, and machine attachments required for the job.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD models to determine machining operations and tolerance levels.
  • Perform machine offsets and tool changes as needed to maintain part quality and specifications.
  • Inspect and measure finished parts using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring instruments to ensure they meet quality standards.
  • Monitor machines during operation to ensure proper function and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  • Maintain equipment by performing routine maintenance and cleaning, and reporting any necessary repairs to the supervisor.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Record and document production runs, inspection results, and machine maintenance activities.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED; technical training in CNC machining or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience operating CNC lathes in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints, technical drawings, and using precision measurement tools.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of CNC programming (basic knowledge preferred).
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve minor machine issues.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
