Job description

Join our Zygo Navitar team, where your expertise will drive cutting-edge solutions, address complex technical challenges, and uphold the highest standards of precision and safety. We are seeking a CNC Machinist for our Special Optics team in Denville, NJ. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Set up and run precision CNC machines for turning, boring, facing, and threading
  • Program, edit, and optimize CNC code (G-code / CAM)
  • Mount and secure components in fixtures or optical cells
  • Align parts to the optical axis using metrology tools
  • Machine critical features to micron-level tolerances
  • Measure and verify centration, runout, and other features
  • Analyze measurement data and adjust setups/processes
  • Troubleshoot machining, alignment, and fixturing issues
  • Receive factory training on alignment turning machine
  • Develop and document setups, processes, and procedures
  • Train technicians and support development of ATS capability
  • Perform routine maintenance and maintain organized work area

REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • High school diploma with solid mathematical aptitude. Associate's degree in engineering/engineering technology preferred.
  • Driven to achieve with a commitment to quality and a safety-first mindset.
  • 3-5+ years of CNC machining experience, capability to operate alignment turning systems (ATS) or using ultra-precision or diamond turning equipment preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with CNC machines and precision turning operations, experience with optical components or optical metrology preferred.
  • Proficiency in G-code programming and CAM software,
  • Familiarity with interferometers or precision measurement tools a plus.
  • Experience holding tight tolerances (micron-level preferred)
  • Ability to consistently read and interpret complex technical drawings, written specifications, and verbal instructions. Experience creating procedures or training others preferred.
  • Collaborative team player who can take initiative, independently troubleshoot and problem-solve
  • Takes accountability and able to operate both flexibly and independently as required
  • Organized, conscientious and focused
