Job description

Job Title: Mining Operations Business Systems Analyst
Location: Hybrid - Phoenix, AZ

Job Type: Independent Contract (Contractor / Non-Employee)
Start Date: ASAP

Pay Rate: $80-$120 per hour C2C/1099

Contract Length: 12+ Months 

We are seeking a highly experienced Business Systems Analyst (BSA) to support business and technology initiatives across Mining Operations. The BSA will serve as the bridge between mining operations, engineering, maintenance, processing, supply chain, and IT teams to identify business requirements, improve operational processes, and implement technology solutions that enhance productivity, safety, reliability, and operational performance.

The ideal candidate will possess strong mining industry experience, a deep understanding of operational workflows, and the ability to translate business needs into system requirements and technical solutions.


Key Responsibilities

Business Analysis & Requirements Gathering

  • Partner with Mining Operations stakeholders to understand business objectives and operational challenges.
  • Facilitate requirements gathering workshops and stakeholder interviews.
  • Document business, functional, and technical requirements.
  • Create user stories, process flows, use cases, and solution specifications.
  • Support prioritization of business and technology initiatives.

Mining Operations Support

  • Analyze and improve mining business processes including:
    • Mine Planning
    • Drill & Blast Operations
    • Haulage Operations
    • Fleet Management
    • Dispatch Systems
    • Maintenance Operations
    • Asset Management
    • Processing Operations
    • Production Reporting
    • Safety & Compliance
  • Identify opportunities for automation and process optimization.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives.

Systems Analysis

  • Evaluate existing applications and systems supporting mining operations.
  • Perform gap analysis and recommend technology solutions.
  • Assess impacts of system changes and enhancements.
  • Support enterprise application implementations and upgrades.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as liaison between business units and technical teams.
  • Facilitate decision-making and alignment across departments.
  • Present recommendations and findings to operational leadership.
  • Manage stakeholder communication throughout project lifecycles.

Process Improvement

  • Document current-state and future-state business processes.
  • Conduct workflow analysis and process mapping.
  • Identify operational inefficiencies and improvement opportunities.
  • Support Lean, Six Sigma, and Operational Excellence initiatives.

Project Delivery Support

  • Participate in Agile and Waterfall project delivery methodologies.
  • Support project planning and execution.
  • Assist with testing strategy and user acceptance testing.
  • Validate system functionality against business requirements.
  • Support production deployments and change management activities.

Data & Reporting Analysis

  • Analyze operational and production data.
  • Develop reporting requirements and KPIs.
  • Support dashboard and analytics development.
  • Ensure data quality and consistency across systems.
  • Assist with operational performance reporting.

Technology Solutions Support

Support and analyze mining-related applications such as:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Mining Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 5+ years of Business Systems Analyst experience.
  • 3+ years supporting mining, heavy industrial, energy, or natural resources operations.
  • Strong requirements gathering and business process analysis experience.
  • Experience working directly with operations stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in open-pit or underground mining operations.
  • Knowledge of mining production and maintenance processes.
  • Experience with fleet management and dispatch systems.
  • Familiarity with operational technology (OT) environments.
  • Experience supporting digital transformation initiatives.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification preferred.
  • CBAP, PMI-PBA, or similar business analysis certification preferred.
