Job description

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct clinical care, injury/illness management, medical surveillance support, and occupational health services for our occupational health clinic in Radford, VA. This role supports workers’ compensation processes, facilitates the Modified Duty and ReturntoWork program, and delivers health education and wellness initiatives. The RN collaborates with the WorkCare Consulting Medical Director (CMD), WorkCare leadership, and client stakeholders to ensure a highquality, compliant, and patientcentered occupational health program.

The RN maintains a professional, employeefocused approach while supporting clinic operations, regulatory compliance, and workplace safety initiatives.

Schedule: Monday – Friday 2:00pm – 10:00pm; additional hours may be required as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Care & First Aid

  • Provide rapid first aid and medical care for employees during onsite hours, within RN scope of practice.
  • Provide episodic care for minor medical issues, consultations, and recommendations per WorkCare treatment guidelines and CMD direction.
  • Deliver evidencebased practice and health promotion.
  • Provide onsite treatment and management of injuries to minimize offsite referrals.
  • Dispense OTC medications per client agreement and state regulations.
  • Provide followup care and ongoing communication with treating providers.

Case Management & Workers’ Compensation

  • Manage ReturntoWork and Modified Duty programs.
  • Perform case management for all workrelated incidents.
  • Participate in or administer workers’ compensation claims and processes.
  • Conduct 3point contact with injured worker, employer, and provider.
  • Maintain communication with adjusters and understand decisionmaking authority limits.
  • Track and report injury and clinic utilization data.

Medical Surveillance & Regulatory Testing

  • Conduct or support medical surveillance exams, including:
    • Audiograms
    • Vision testing
    • Pulmonary function testing
    • Respirator fit testing
    • TB testing
    • Immunizations
    • DOT testing (if applicable)
  • Perform postaccident, preemployment, forcause, and random drug testing.
  • Assist with newhire exams, returntowork assessments, and fitnessforduty evaluations within RN scope and CMD support.

Wellness, Prevention & Education

  • Support health fairs, vaccination clinics, and wellness initiatives.
  • Provide health education and promote healthy lifestyles.
  • Support ergonomic evaluations and injuryprevention education.
  • Facilitate use of client wellness resources (fitness centers, HRAs, etc.).

Emergency Response & Safety

  • Participate in emergency response team activities, drills, and training.
  • Provide clinical support during onsite emergencies within RN scope.
  • Participate in safety, health, and wellness meetings as requested.

Clinic Operations & Administration

  • Maintain medical records (paper and electronic) and ensure documentation accuracy.
  • Maintain OSHA 300 logs and support required data entry.
  • Maintain clinic supplies, equipment, and daily operational readiness.
  • Perform AED checks and maintain calibration logs.
  • Prepare clinic utilization reports and other required documentation.
  • Support general clinic operations (phones, filing, chart management, traffic flow).
  • Collaborate with CMD and WorkCare supervisor regarding clinic issues and client requests.
  • Assist with developing protocols and policies with CMD and client stakeholders.
  • Perform additional duties and assume additional responsibilities as identified by manager for the efficient operation of WorkCare.

Education & Experience

  • Current, unrestricted RN license in the state of Virginia
  • BLS/ACLS certification required
  • Minimum 3–5 years RN experience required.
  • 2–3 years of occupational health, emergency, critical care, or urgent care experience required
  • Certification in Occupational Health Nursing preferred
  • NIOSH, CAOHC, DOT Drug & Alcohol testing certifications preferred (or ability to obtain)
  • Experience with EMR systems and basic office software applications

Site-Specific Compliance Requirements

  • Must meet all site access, security, safety, and contractor onboarding requirements.
  • Must complete required background screening, safety orientation, badge requirements, and identification verification.
  • Must comply with all site safety, health, environmental, and security protocols while working onsite.

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged sitting and computer use.
  • Occasional standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Daily walk required between parking area and clinic.
  • Ability to work under stress and maintain focus in a clinical environment.

Work Environment

  • Primarily indoor, office/clinic environment.
  • Moderate noise level; controlled temperature and air quality.

This position has an hourly pay range of $45 - $48. Final compensation for this position depends on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and qualifications.
