Job description

ABOUT US:
Palos Verdes Golf Club is a private club located in the middle of an 800-acre parkland preserve overlooking Santa Monica Bay with ocean views visible from several holes. Established in 1924, the golf course has long been referred to as "a hidden gem" and the clubhouse is a designated historical building by the Palos Verdes Historical Society.

Essential duties include but are not limited to:
  • Approach all interaction with Members, guests, and colleagues in a courteous, service-oriented manner
  • Remain attentive, friendly, helpful, courteous, and respectful to Members, guests, managers and fellow employees at all times
  • Know assigned service area upon the start of each shift and pay close attention to the activity within your service area
  • Promptly greet guests as they are seated, introduce yourself providing your first name; assist by pulling out chairs and lapping napkins
  • Know and be able to communicate all cocktails, wine, and beer on menus and detailed descriptions of each
  • Know and be able to communicate all breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert menu items, their ingredients, and detailed descriptions of each; know and be able to communicate daily specials
  • Engage in actively upselling food menu items and beverages
  • Take orders from guests, including large parties, with accuracy and appropriately timed
  • Process ordered items, guests' checks, and payments through computer POS system accurately and in an organized manner
  • Maintain awareness of all table and position numbers for each shift
  • Monitor and observe Member and guests dining experience; attend to tables with appropriate manners and frequency between courses
  • Evenly attend to a large volume of guests and/or multiple tables at once with finesse
  • Promptly deliver food and beverages to guests from service area, kitchen, and bar as required or requested and ensure food and beverages are delivered at appropriate times
  • Ensure guests' food and beverage items are all accounted for and accurate as they receive them, including special orders
  • Respond promptly and politely to guest requests and communicate guest requests to management when necessary
  • Thank Members and guests as they are leaving and invite them to return
  • Complete daily opening and closing duties and cleaning according to established side work
  • Keep all work areas and server stations clean and properly stocked
  • Communicate with co-workers and management throughout shift to ensure efficiency of service
  • Ensure overall guest satisfaction; communicate all guests' feedback promptly to management
  • Attend pre-shift meetings, trainings, and all staff meetings as required/requested
  • Follow all Club policies, systems, controls and procedures

Qualifications & Skills:
  • English/Spanish bilingual ability a plus
  • Excellent Member and guest-relation communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of POS systems; ClubEssential experience preferred
  • Dynamic outgoing personality; articulate, friendly, punctual, and proactive
  • High level of client services, professionalism, and attention to detail; professional appearance appropriate for a premier country club

Experience & Education:
  • Minimum two years' Server and/or food service experience in an upscale restaurant environment; fine dining and/or country club experience highly preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic knowledge of food and beverage operations
  • Serv-Safe certified
  • RBS certified
  • Barista experience preferred
  • CPR certified a plus
  • Must be flexible and available to work evenings, nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
