Overview
This is 100% remote position. CHLA requires a primary residence in California prior to start date. May require on-site visits depending on department needs.
Schedule: Monday-Friday, Day Shift
Purpose Statement/Position Summary: The CloudOps Engineer II is responsible for the development and operations of CHLA's cloud and hybrid technology infrastructure. This role focuses on administering cloud infrastructure at scale through automation, infrastructure as code, centralized monitoring, security, governance, lifecycle management, and operational support to ensure that applications and services meet uptime and availability targets.
The position also supports CHLA's Linux environment across cloud, on-premises, and research systems. This includes centralized configuration management, patching, monitoring, inventory and lifecycle tracking, security compliance, automation, and troubleshooting. The role must be able to provide onsite support when hands-on investigation or remediation is required.
Additionally, the role will help develop and support cloud disaster recovery concepts, testing, documentation, and related initiatives. The CloudOps Engineer II requires a thorough understanding of cloud infrastructure, systems administration, system architecture, networking, automation, and traditional developer practices such as source control management, code reviews, unit testing, and agile principles.
Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience:
Required:
  • 3-5 years of experience in cloud infrastructure management, systems administration, or a related role.
  • In-depth understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Proficiency in automation and orchestration tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) practices.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud security best practices and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in scripting and programming languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation.
  • Experience with system architecture, system administration, and networking concepts.
  • Familiarity with developer tools and practices (e.g., source control management, code reviews, unit tests).
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and support senior engineers.
  • Willingness to participate in on-call rotations and respond to system incidents outside of regular business hours.
  • More than 5 years of experience in cloud infrastructure management or related roles.
  • Experience in designing and implementing scalable, reliable, and secure cloud environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of cloud platforms and their services.
  • Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD).
  • Strong understanding of cloud disaster recovery planning and implementation.
  • Knowledge of agile principles and practices.
  • Proven ability to document technical processes and configurations.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to stay updated with the latest technology trends and apply them to improve cloud infrastructure and services.
  • Experience in an academic medical center or large enterprise environment.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and culture.
  • Understanding of regulatory compliance requirements and participation in audits.
Preferred:
  • Advanced knowledge of cloud platforms and services, particularly Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience designing, administering, and supporting scalable, reliable, and secure production cloud environments.
  • Experience managing cloud infrastructure at scale using infrastructure as code, automation, centralized monitoring, governance, inventory, and lifecycle-management practices.
  • Experience with automation, orchestration, and CI/CD technologies such as Terraform, Ansible, Python, Bash, Kubernetes, Jenkins, or GitLab CI/CD.
  • Strong Linux systems administration experience supporting production systems across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments.
  • Experience managing a Linux server estate through centralized configuration management, patching, monitoring, inventory, lifecycle tracking, security compliance, and automation.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills involving Linux operating systems, services, networking, storage, authentication, performance, and system availability, including the ability to provide onsite support when necessary.
  • Experience with cloud disaster recovery, technical documentation, and operational support in a healthcare, academic medical center, or large enterprise environment.
Education/Licensure/Certification:
Required:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
Relevant certification.
Preferred:
Master's Degree. Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals, or Google Cloud Associate Cloud Engineer.
Pay Scale Information
USD $122,573.00 - USD $127,088.00

The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates who meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description.
