Summary
As part of Vanguard's Chief Technology Office (CTO), the Cloud Platform Engineer will provide technical expertise to design, build, and support scalable cloud platforms and CI/CD solutions that enable secure, reliable, and efficient software delivery. This role will help drive platform modernization through Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automation, DevOps best practices, and cloud engineering capabilities that support the evolving needs of Vanguard's business and technology teams. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer with experience building cloud-native solutions, developing CI/CD pipelines, and improving platform reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and support cloud platforms and CI/CD solutions that improve software delivery, scalability, reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain automated deployment pipelines using GitHub and modern DevOps practices to support continuous integration and continuous delivery.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions and automation patterns to provision, configure, test, and manage cloud infrastructure.
  • Monitor platform health, performance, and availability; identify and resolve bottlenecks, conduct root cause analysis, and implement preventative solutions.
  • Support cloud-native application development by providing engineering solutions that improve developer experience, platform stability, and release quality.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, technical standards, and operational procedures while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver cloud-based solutions aligned to business needs.
  • Promote code through development, testing, and production environments according to release schedules and provide production support as needed.
  • Evaluate tools, technologies, and engineering practices to continuously improve platform effectiveness, reliability, and operational excellence.
  • Collaborate with team members to share knowledge, support engineering best practices, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work independently while effectively contributing within Agile and Scrum-based delivery teams.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in cloud engineering, infrastructure management, cloud operations, or a related technology field.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience building and supporting CI/CD pipelines using GitHub, including GitHub Actions.
  • Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using tools such as AWS CloudFormation or Terraform.
  • Strong proficiency in at least one modern programming language, including TypeScript, Java, or Python.
  • Experience designing, deploying, and supporting AWS cloud solutions and cloud-native applications.
  • Experience with Docker, automated testing frameworks, and DevOps engineering practices.
  • Experience using AI-powered development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, or similar engineering productivity tools.

Nice-to-Have Skills
  • Familiarity with Open Policy Agent (OPA) and Nx.
  • Familiarity with Artifactory.
