Job description

Summary

The Azure Cloud Engineer is responsible for collaborative management of Kloeckner’s enterprise Azure platform. This role blends cloud architecture expertise with product ownership, ensuring the Azure environment is secure, scalable, costefficient, and aligned with the Digital, Information & Technology (DIT) strategy. The position supports global teams across Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, Applications, and Data/Analytics.

This position is full-time in office 5 days per week in our Corporate Headquarters located in Alpharetta, GA.  

Key Responsibilities

Azure Platform Strategy & Architecture

  • Define the enterprise Azure platform strategy, roadmap, and target architecture.
  • Lead design for landing zones, governance, subscription models, network architecture, identity, and security.
  • Drive adoption of Azure-native services and modern cloud patterns.
  • Manage backlog, roadmap, features, lifecycle, and release planning.
  • Translate business and technical requirements into platform capabilities.
  • Ensure platform enhancements align with global DIT standards.

Security, Governance & Compliance

  • Implement and maintain Azure security controls, policies, and compliance baselines.
  • Collaborate with Cybersecurity on Defender for Cloud, RBAC, Zero Trust, and regulatory requirements.
  • Enforce governance using Azure Policy, blueprints, and standardized architectures.

Operational Excellence

  • Oversee platform operations including monitoring, automation, and resiliency.
  • Manage cost optimization and cloud financial governance (FinOps).
  • Ensure platform reliability, scalability, and performance across all environments.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Act as the Azure subject matter expert for application, data, and integration teams (e.g., SAP on Azure, Data & Analytics, ERP modernization).
  • Partner with Microsoft, Cognizant, and other strategic vendors.
  • Support project teams with architecture reviews, design guidance, and modernization workshops.

Delivery & Execution

  • Lead cloud modernization initiatives, migrations, and platform enhancements.
  • Create and maintain documentation, runbooks, platform diagrams, standards, and guidelines.
  • Ensure adherence to SDLC processes and cloud governance frameworks.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years with Azure, GCP (optional) and hybrid architectures and service operations
  • Strong expertise in Azure IaaS, PaaS, networking, identity, security, and automation.
  • Proven ability to design enterprise-scale cloud environments.
  • Solid understanding of cloud governance, cost management, and security frameworks.
  • Strong communication skills; ability to work across technical and executive stakeholders.
  • Good knowledge of workplace security services (e.g. MS Defender, MS Sentinel, MS MFA, Tiered-Security-Model, Zero Trust)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Azure certifications such as:
    • Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ305)
    • Azure Security Engineer (AZ500)
    • Azure Administrator (AZ104)
  • Experience with hybrid cloud models, ExpressRoute, VPN, and identity federation (AD/AAD).
  • Experience supporting workloads such as SAP on Azure, modern data platforms, or global integration platforms.
