Job description

SteerBridge is a modern technology company delivering innovative, mission-focused solutions to the U.S. Government and private sector. Leveraging deep expertise in federal acquisition, digital transformation, and emerging technologies, we deliver agile, commercial-grade capabilities that accelerate operational effectiveness and drive measurable mission success.

At the core of SteerBridge is our people-especially the veterans whose leadership, problem-solving mindset, and commitment to excellence elevate every project we support. We don't simply hire exceptional talent; we cultivate it, creating meaningful career pathways for veterans, military spouses, and professionals who share our passion for advancing technology and strengthening the missions we serve.

Position Overview

SteerBridge is seeking a Cloud Engineer to build and operate the AWS GovCloud infrastructure behind a mission-critical Defense Aviation platform used by federal customers. This role focuses on the day-to-day engineering of secure, automated cloud environments that host fleet readiness, maintenance, and logistics workloads.

The engineer will work directly with solutions architects, security engineers, data teams, and platform owners to provision infrastructure as code, automate hardened image pipelines, and keep production environments reliable, compliant, and observable.

This is a hands-on role. The ideal candidate is comfortable across Linux and Windows environments, writes infrastructure as code, automates repetitive operational work, and methodically troubleshoots networking, identity, and compute issues in a regulated cloud.

SteerBridge operates in AWS GovCloud and applies hardened, STIG-aligned baselines and automated CI/CD pipelines to deliver infrastructure that meets DoD security expectations. Cloud engineers keep these systems running and continuously improve their automation, resilience, and cost efficiency.

This is a hybrid position based in Vienna, VA.

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure Engineering and Automation

  • Provision and manage AWS GovCloud infrastructure using infrastructure as code such as Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Build and maintain automated, STIG-hardened container pipelines using ECR and ECS
  • Automate provisioning, patching, and configuration management across Linux and Windows fleet
  • ย Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and application deployment
  • Manage core services including EC2, VPC networking, S3, IAM, and supporting WorkSpaces environments

Operations and Reliability

  • Monitor production environments and respond to operational issues using CloudWatch and related tooling
  • Troubleshoot networking, DNS, identity, and compute issues across hybrid, Active Directory-integrated environments
  • Implement and tune logging, metrics, and alarms to maintain visibility while reducing alert noise
  • ย Participate in on-call rotation and incident response for production workloads
  • Drive continuous improvement in reliability, performance, and cost efficiency

Security and Compliance

  • Apply hardened baselines and least-privilege IAM policies across cloud resources
  • Remediate findings and reduce access-control noise in coordination with the security team
  • Support audit, compliance, and authorization activities with accurate documentation and evidence

Collaboration

  • Work closely with architects and security engineers to implement designs securely and reliably
  • Document infrastructure, runbooks, and automation for the broader team
  • Participate in design reviews, backlog refinement, and sprint planning

Required Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • 3+ years of hands-on cloud engineering experience, preferably with AWS
  • Strong experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform and/or CloudFormation)
  • Proficiency administering Linux and Windows systems in cloud environments
  • Solid understanding of cloud networking including VPC, subnets, routing, DNS, and security groups
  • Experience with IAM, least-privilege access, and cloud security fundamentals
  • Scripting and automation skills in Python, Bash, or PowerShell
  • Experience building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and a methodical, root-cause approach\

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in AWS GovCloud or other regulated or federal cloud environments
  • Familiarity with STIG hardening, DISA baselines, or DoD compliance frameworks
  • Experience with EC2 Image Builder or other automated golden-image pipelines
  • Experience with Amazon WorkSpaces and Active Directory-integrated environments
  • AWS certifications such as Solutions Architect Associate or SysOps Administrator
  • Experience supporting aviation, defense, or logistics systems

Benefits

  • Health insurance
  • Dental insurance
  • Vision insurance
  • Life Insurance
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan with matching
  • Paid Time Off
  • Paid Federal Holidays
$134,000 - $164,000 a year
Salary is commensurate with years of experience.ย
