What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Cloud Developer Advocate, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Cloud Developer Advocate, you need a solid background in cloud computing, software development, and a strong understanding of cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, often supported by relevant certifications. Familiarity with APIs, CI/CD pipelines, containerization tools such as Docker or Kubernetes, and developer community engagement platforms is typically required. Exceptional communication, public speaking, and relationship-building skills help advocates connect with both developers and stakeholders. These skills are vital for effectively translating technical concepts, fostering community engagement, and driving adoption of cloud technologies.

How does a Cloud Developer Advocate typically engage with both internal product teams and external developer communities?

Cloud Developer Advocates play a crucial role in bridging the gap between cloud platform teams and the broader developer community. They often collaborate closely with internal engineers and product managers to relay feedback, suggest improvements, and help shape product roadmaps based on real-world developer needs. Externally, they engage by hosting webinars, writing technical blogs, answering questions at conferences, and contributing to open-source projects. This dual engagement ensures that the platform evolves in a way that genuinely supports its users while keeping the advocate deeply involved in both technical and community-facing activities.

What is a Cloud Developer Advocate?

A Cloud Developer Advocate is a technology professional who acts as a bridge between cloud platform providers and the developer community. Their primary role is to help developers understand, use, and succeed with cloud services and tools. They engage with developers through events, content creation, open source projects, and direct support, while also gathering feedback to help improve cloud products. By promoting best practices and advocating for developers within their organizations, Cloud Developer Advocates play a key role in building thriving cloud ecosystems.

Job description

About Nebius:
Nebius is leading a new era in cloud infrastructure for the global AI economy. We are building a full-stack AI cloud platform that supports developers and enterprises from data and model training through to production deployment, without the cost and complexity of building large in-house AI/ML infrastructure.
Built by engineers, for engineers. From large-scale GPU orchestration to inference optimization, we own the hard problems across compute, storage, networking and applied AI.
Listed on Nasdaq (NBIS) and headquartered in Amsterdam, we have a global footprint with R&D hubs across Europe, the UK, North America and Israel. Our team of 1,500+ includes hundreds of engineers with deep expertise across hardware, software and AI R&D.
The Role
Nebius is seeking a Senior Developer Advocate - AI Cloud to drive adoption of our high-performance cloud infrastructure. As a Developer Advocate, you'll be the bridge between our cutting-edge cloud technology and the developers who build on it, helping them unlock the full potential of virtual machines, GPU clusters, orchestration tools and optimized ML infrastructure.
You'll join our Developer Relations team with a mission to help developers succeed with Nebius' cloud offerings. In this role, you'll focus on communicating the technical capabilities and differentiators of our cloud infrastructure rather than our AI Studio, emphasizing our reliability, performance and ease of use.
You are welcome to work remotely from the United States.
Your responsibilities will include:
Technical advocacy and education
  • Create technical content demonstrating how to effectively use VMs, GPU clusters, Kubernetes, SLURM and Soperator for diverse computing workloads
  • Develop sample code, tutorials and reference architectures showcasing best practices for cloud computing and ML infrastructure
  • Build and present technical demonstrations of Nebius' cloud platform at conferences, workshops and online events
  • Produce clear, engaging explanations of complex infrastructure concepts for various technical audiences

Community engagement and relationship building
  • Represent Nebius at industry events, conferences, hackathons and online forums focused on cloud infrastructure and ML computing
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders in the broader developer and cloud computing community
  • Engage with developers on technical forums, social media and community platforms to provide guidance on infrastructure topics
  • Organize and lead workshops, webinars and training sessions on effective use of cloud resources for various workloads

Product feedback and developer advocacy
  • Gather insights and feedback from the developer community to inform our product roadmap
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to improve developer experience with our cloud offerings
  • Identify common challenges developers face when working with cloud infrastructure and help create solutions
  • Advocate for developer needs internally while representing Nebius's interests externally

Content creation and thought leadership
  • Author technical blog posts about infrastructure optimization, deployment techniques and orchestration best practices
  • Create video tutorials and live coding sessions demonstrating effective use of Nebius cloud infrastructure
  • Contribute to technical documentation, best practices guides and knowledge base articles
  • Develop and share thought leadership content on cloud computing trends and technologies

We expect you to have:
Technical knowledge and skills
  • Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure and distributed computing principles
  • Experience with virtual machines, containerization, and managing compute resources
  • Knowledge of GPU clusters and techniques for optimizing ML workloads
  • Working knowledge of container orchestration systems like Kubernetes and job schedulers like SLURM
  • Familiarity with infrastructure components including networking, storage optimization and resource management
  • Experience optimizing performance of diverse workloads in cloud environments
  • Strong programming skills, particularly in Python and familiarity with PyTorch ecosystem
  • Understanding of cloud infrastructure concepts and deployment patterns

Practical experience

  • Demonstrated experience with cloud technologies and infrastructure
  • Previous work with infrastructure-as-code, containerization and cloud environments
  • Experience explaining complex technical concepts to different audiences through writing, speaking, or training
  • Prior involvement in developer communities, open-source projects or technical forums (desirable)
