Purpose:

The Software & Database Engineer 1 is responsible for assisting with the development, implementation and maintenance of software, data platforms and analytical applications. Working under the guidance of Software Data Engineering Supervisor, the Software Data Engineer 1 helps ensure the integrity, security, and availability of the software and database applications. They assist in performing routine tasks such as gathering requirements for the project, writing the System Requirements and the design document design specification documents, perform unit & integration testing, assist during the project implementation and provide support for software/database applications. Assist in designing the front-end user interface using SharePoint\other front-end tools and write basic SQL statements to generate reports. Ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Functions:

  • Assists the Software Data Engineering Supervisor to create robust software/database solutions aligned to Government shipbuilding standards.
  • Assists in gathering business requirements by collaborating with the stake holders, studying process workflows, data usage and work processes.
  • Design, develop, and implement automated workflows using Microsoft Power Automate to improve business processes.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize existing workflows to improve efficiency and reliability.
  • Create, customize, and enhance SharePoint sites to facilitate team collaboration and document management.
  • Write basic SQL queries such as select statements and joins to extract data from SQL servers in a consistent and efficient manner.
  • Experience with data analysis tools and with building reports and dashboards using Power BI.
  • Assists in training end users and maintains high quality documentation that follows all phases of the software development cycle.
  • Works cross-functionally with other departments to understand and document requirements for new or changed data processes and provide technical solutions.
  • Understands the data sensitivity, customer data privacy rules and regulations related to Government Shipbuilding and applies them consistently in all Software Lifecycle Management activities.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 0-2 years of industry experience
  • NO SPONSORSHIPS OR OPT AVAILABLE

Preferred Skills
Experience with React or modern frontend frameworks

Experience with GitHub actions.
Experience with Node.js or Python (FastAPI/Flask)
Experience with Power BI or data visualization tools
Knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP)
Understanding of event-driven systems, integrations or data pipelines

Required Skills

  • Experience in Microsoft 365 tools such as Power Apps, Power Automate, SharePoint, MS Office tools etc.
  • Familiarity with SQL and database query languages.
  • Knowledge of web development technologies (HTML, CSS3 and JavaScript).
  • Familiarity with software testing methodologies and tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Teamwork skills with a problem-solving attitude.
