How You Will Make an Impact

The Gene Synthesis & Cloning Technical Sales Specialist (TSS) is responsible for driving sales across the molecular cloning continuum with a primary focus on GeneArt Gene Synthesis and GeneArt Cloning Services. This role partners with researchers to understand their experimental goals and recommend the most appropriate combination of gene synthesis services, cloning workflows, enzymes, competent cells, PCR reagents, and related molecular biology solutions.

Supporting customers across New England and the east coast, you will work closely with Account Managers and cross-functional commercial partners to develop opportunities, expand customer workflows, and position Thermo Fisher as a trusted scientific partner. Ideal location to reside is Boston, Philly, NJ, DC metro areas.

What You Will Do
  • Serve as the technical expert for the GeneArt Gene Synthesis and Cloning portfolio, while supporting complementary molecular biology and cloning workflows.
  • Consult with academic, biotech, pharmaceutical, and government researchers to understand project goals and recommend complete workflow solutions—from gene design through downstream cloning applications.
  • Build and maintain strong scientific relationships with principal investigators, research scientists, core facilities, and laboratory managers.
  • Prospect for new business opportunities while expanding existing accounts through workflow penetration, reagent attachment, and cross-selling opportunities.
  • Develop and execute strategic territory business plans that drive adoption of GeneArt services while growing the broader molecular biology portfolio.
  • Navigate complex sales opportunities by collaborating closely with Account Managers, Business Development Managers, Marketing, Product Management, and Technical Support teams.
  • Position Thermo Fisher's complete cloning workflow by identifying opportunities for PCR enzymes, cloning kits, competent cells, restriction enzymes, reverse transcription, and related products.
  • Differentiate Thermo Fisher solutions against competitive offerings by demonstrating technical expertise and articulating scientific and workflow value.
  • Deliver technical presentations, seminars, lunch-and-learns, and customer workshops tailored to specific research applications.
  • Maintain an accurate opportunity pipeline, forecast territory performance, and provide regular updates through Salesforce.
  • Capture competitive intelligence and customer insights to support future product development and commercial strategy.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Biotechnology, or related Life Science field required
  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) preferred
  • 8 plus years of work related experience, a combination of life sciences sales and experience working at the bench is strongly preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in Massachusetts is $113,000.00–$150,000.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
